A New Experience

Try Something NewWhen you are riding and your riding instructor realizes that you are ready for something new, aren’t you excited? Or not? It’s a good thing to start to learn a different technique when you are ready for it.

If you are ready to start to jump, you may feel somewhat scared, but you don’t just start out jumping. Most instructors start you out with ground poles, or if you’ve done that already, low fences (2-3 feet at the most).

I was riding in the arena with my horse, Star, and my riding instructor announced that I was ready to canter. I had a pretty good feeling for what it was — just a faster gait. How could that be hard? But when I pushed on Star’s sides, it was harder than I thought it would be.

“Don’t flop around in the saddle! Don’t slide like that!” Whew! I sure was glad when we were walking again. It was a new experience though, and I actually enjoyed it.

It turned out that she said I was a ‘pro’ at riding. Sometimes I guess you really can’t lack confidence about yourself. You just have to try it out. See if you like it, and then be a pro at it!

Think of all the professional riders in life. How many times do you think they fell? Or made a mistake? Everyone makes mistakes in life, but you have to learn from it to fix it.

Madelaina- I’m glad you like my blogs. Sometimes ideas just pop in my head, and then I just feel like I must write it before the idea slips out. I have always wanted to be a writer, and found that maybe if I try really hard, I might, just might, become one someday.

    Thanks again Horsecrazzz and Madelaina-
