Barn Buzz - July 13th

Published by LeadMare • Jul 13th, 2007 • Category: GHC News

barnbuzz.gifHAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH!
Let’s not believe in that silly thing about bad luck today. Instead let’s assume our day will bring all the good things we deserve, especially to those in need of some luck. And speaking of good luck…

TERRI FARLEY WILL BE HERE TOMORROW!
We’re very excited to welcome Terri Farley for our third Interactive View. She’s making time in her busy schedule to check in periodically and answer your questions. So put on your journalist hat and get ready to submit some thought-provoking questions when the Interactive View begins on Saturday.

PUBLISHING CALENDAR
Check out the new calendar along the sidebar. As we get more and more blog submissions, we know it tests your patience to find out if your blog will be published, and when it will be published. So we’ll do our best to keep this updated with what’s around the corner. In addition to some interesting blogs and new bloggers, it looks like next week we’ll have two more horse girls joining the ranks of our Junior Bloggers — yay Tori and horsejo!

CONTEST CONGRATULATIONS
Three cheers for Cassie! Her winning entry The Lone Stallion from the “Every Picture Tells a Story” contest received the Best in Show award from our readers. Hmmm, what should our next contest should be…?

STEPPING UP
We greatly appreciate members who step up to help newbies feel welcome and adjust to how things work around our (somewhat quirky) virtual barn. The general FAQs and blog FAQs are always a good place to direct new members, and the contact form is great for questions not covered in the FAQs. We’re also *very* impressed with how helpful and encouraging you are to one another, even if you don’t always see eye-to-eye (and that’s OK!).

As distance shows a horse’s strength, so time reveals a person’s heart.

  1. I can’t wait to talk to Terri Farley! I am also so happy to becoming a Jr. Blogger! This is a really cool Barn Buzz!

  2. horsejo: how long have you been here?about 6 or 7 weeks? and already your blogging! I didn’t realise there was a blog for ages, hehe, and it took me a while to do a blog aswell,I admire your strength, well thats not the right word, but i know what i mean, hopefully you do too! :)

  3. Thank you, Animalsrkool! Yeah, I do get what you mean. And yes I have been on for less than 2 months.

  4. I have no idea how long I’ve been a memeber. Leadmare, is there any way you can tell me. If you know?

  5. Hi Marisa: Our definition of membership is a bit different than most sites because we don’t require you to create a login and password so we don’t know exactly when joined-up, but it looks like you started commenting on the blog back in March and had your first story published in May.

Thanks for all you contribute to the herd!

  6. Congrats Tori and Horsejo! You’re getting there! I’d love to read your blogs when they are published!

  7. Oh my gosh!!! Im so excited about terri farley coming tomorrow:) Im still thinking of what I should ask.

  8. Leadmare: I think the blog calendar and ponder this is really good! :) Is there a way we could submit horsey quotations aswell?

  9. Sure Animalsrkool, just send them using the contact form or the online submission form. Thanks!

  10. I like the new thing, ‘We Heart…’

  11. Thanks horsejo, you don’t miss a thing. :) I just adore iStockphoto and wanted to share the love. They have such a great selection of horse photos from talented photographers, and it’s so reasonable to purchase rights to use them on a web site. We usually modify the photos to add our own touches, but our blogs would not have so many photo illustrations if not for iStockphoto!

  12. Leadmare:(thanx for answering my question earlier) well i was wondering how you get the istockphoto bit off the photos? Thanks

  13. Animalsrkool: That’s called a watermark. It’s there to prevent people from using the photos without paying. You pay by purchasing credits (minimum $12 for 10 credits). The least expensive photos, which are great for a web site, cost 1 credit. After you pay, you can download the image without the watermark.

  14. ahh,i see so u PAY for our blogs?!!

  15. Yes, we pay for the photos then work our magic to make them uniquely suited to the blogs we publish.

  16. Animalsrkool, it is true, they do PAY for our blogs. LeadMare cares so much about us that she will pay money to make our work look better, and that is just so amazing! I love it when people care for us just like LeadMare cares for us! It is just a great feeling, you know?

  17. LeadMare, it seems so cool how you edit your own photos! I tried, but it is not my thing. All of the photos that I did turned out yucky!

I have a question. If we write a blog and have a photo that we think will go well with it, can we maybe submit it to go in the blog.

Thank you everyone for making Girls Horse Club such a wonderful place to be!

  18. In general we don’t take photo submissions, but we always consider your suggestions. In an author/publisher relationship, it’s typical that the publisher is responsible for choosing the artist who illustrates a book, story or article (unless the author is also an artist).

But when you get to the status of someone like Terri Farley, you probably have a lot more clout with the publisher. :)

  19. Wow,Leadmare! Thats so kind of you,praps i should submit less blogs,say 1 a year? lol:-?

  20. :)) Animalsrkool, that’s up to you. This isn’t homework — it’s whenever and whatever you’re inspired to write. But there is an expectation that Junior Bloggers will make regular submissions — your fans like to hear from you, right?

  21. Well Leadmare, your right,i do have many adoring fans 8->,so yes i’ll do them a little more often than once a year…

  22. There smileys r pretty cool! :( ;) they move!! :-O

  23. Glad you like! Eventually I’ll get around to animating all of them. Whenever I have time it’s fun to tinker and give you something new, even if it’s just a little (round yellow) thing. :)

  24. hehe, it’s so cool how they blink and turn they’re heads! i could make do them so conversations B-) - course you could, after all,i’m a very cool smiley :(( - i’m not cool!
:-h - hi guys! :) - don’t you agree were awesome? lol how u do them?

  25. Oooooooh!!! I love the smileys :D They are so awesome now that they are animated B-)

  26. Leadmare:did u get the Ponder This… i sent in? i sent 3 one i thought up myself and the others i didn’t know who said them..

  27. Animalsrkool, we got one of them and added it to “Ponder This…” BTW the quotes show up randomly. If you want to see different ones just keep hitting the ‘reload page’ button on your browser. Thanks!

  28. Leadmare, I just had an idea that you should host a drawing contest! The members of Girlshorseclub.com could send in pictures of horses and who ever wins gets a surprise! I don’t know what kind of surprise but it should be good! But of course it’s ok if you don’t agree on it. I just thought it would be something new! Something besides writing! Maybe Girlshorseclub.com should have a whole gallery full of all the pictures that get sent in! Imagine all the beautiful pictures from all the wonderful horse artists! I know I would send in lots of pictures!:D

  29. Marisa, this is a great idea.

Horsecrazzz suggested that we should vote on what the next contest will be. So I’ve put up a new poll with this and the other ideas we’ve gotten from y’all. Go vote for the next contest!

  30. Leadmare, there is one problem… How will we send the pictures in? By mail or scanner? Or maybe both! :)

  31. Marisa, where there’s a will there’s a way. :) Pictures can be sent by snail mail and I’m looking into setting up a way to upload pictures through the site for those who have digital pics or a way to scan something.

  32. That’s a good idea! Maybe if you have a camera that you can hook up to the computer, you can take a picture of your drawing with it then upload the picture to your computer and e-mail it to you! That just might work! :)

  33. LeadMare: I noticed on August 17th it says an Interactive Vire 4 ends, when does it start and who are you interviewing? Or will it remain a surprise? Just wondering! Thanks. :-/

  34. Hay Julia: Interactive View #4 will start August 11th and the interviewee will be announced soon (although there are already a couple of clues planted around the site if anyone wants to solve the mystery before it’s officially announced). B-)

  35. Leadmare:any clues as to where these clues are? *i think i saw somewhere that it was an author*

  36. I did some serious searching and I figured it out! *hint* Check the last Interactive View with Terri Farley.

  37. Nice work Detective Julia. ;)

  38. Ohhhhhhhhhhh!!! It’s an auther!!!!!!! I saw some of her books! Pretty good!

  39. Lol, Thanks LeadMare. B-)

  40. who is it!?? :(( i can’t find it anywhere,am i just blind?

  41. Keep looking Animalsrkool! ;)

  42. i’m short sighted,i know that..your enjoying this arn’t you? ,please gimme a clue!*on knees,begging* :-?

  43. AH-HA!! i found it!! :D {:D},but i don’t know who she is..(time to go to the library!)

  44. oh!!!!!!! I think i have it!!!!!

  45. Congrats to all who found the clues. They’re in the comments of the Interactive View with Terri Farley and the blog calendar (for today’s date). It should be pretty obvious as of today… ;)

  46. I looked at the Terri Farley Interview first and figured out who it was :D
    I can’t wait!

  47. Leadmare:in the latest poll, can you put Odds and Ends in it,or does that come under something thats already there?(Odds and Ends is my favourite part of the blog) :D

  48. Sure Animalsrkool. I tried to consolidate so there weren’t a gazillion choices, but let me know if I missed anything else. :)

  49. Awesome! Thanks Leadmare!! :)
