Barn Buzz - June 19th

Published by LeadMare • Jun 19th, 2007 • Category: GHC News

barnbuzz.gifDo you notice any differences around our virtual barn? The horses are fat and happy after a week of grazing and very little exercise other than pasture play. A restful feeling remains in the air even though the barn is quietly buzzing back to life. But wait — there’s something else! Looks like the barn mice have been busy making little changes. Here’s the squeak.

BLOG COMMENTS
We’re adopting a new approach to blog comments. Meaningful, constructive and/or positive thoughts from our readers are always welcome, but starting now we’re getting more selective about publishing comments. We don’t publish every submission we receive in the Loft Book Club and we’re even more picky about what we publish in the blog. Now we’ll be equally selective with blog comments.

Why? You’ve heard me say it before — we set the bar high because we believe you have wings to soar. There are a gazillion sites where you have free rein (pun intended) to chat away about something, anything and nothing. We value quality over quantity so we’re focused on showcasing girls with something special to say — like those who contribute to the Loft Book Club, our awesome junior bloggers, occasional guest bloggers, and the talented horse girls who participate in the Interactive View. Y’all are amazing and we thank you for helping shape Girls Horse Club.

BLOG CONTEST
The “Every Picture Tells a Story” contest deadline is coming up. We’ve gotten some great entries so far, but the more the merrier. C’mom all you lurkers — don’t be afraid to step up and give it a shot! Even Seattle Slew started his first career race with 10 to 1 odds. By the time that race started his odds had improved, thanks to public opinion. In case you don’t know, Seattle Slew went on to win the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in 1977.

SUMMER READING
These days people spend more time reading online and less time reading printed materials like newspapers and books. But while taking a break from computers and the Internet last week, I was reminded how wonderful it is to find a comfortable, peaceful spot and get lost in a good story. One of the books I read was Sundancer, the newest title from Shelley Peterson, author of several horsey fiction novels including Dancer, Abby Malone and Stagestruck. In the coming weeks we’ll talk about this and other good reads for your summer book list.

  1. Phantom Stallion-The Renegade and Chestnut Hill-All Or Nothing are good books about horses to read over the summer.

  2. This is good. Yeah, I’m reading books over the summer. Like Black Beauty. That is such a great book, I could read it again and again!

  3. Same here. I love books. I plan to read the “My magical pony” series this summer:)
