Being Humbled

Have you ever been doing really good in a horse event, and then you lose? Well I have. You’re at the top of your game and no one can stop you from winning. You are the best out there and that’s all there is too it. Then when you go in for the finals, you lose. You think, “How could this happen? I was doing really well.” You’re frustrated with yourself and your horse. You can’t believe you lost.
Well let me tell you, this is what you call being humbled. Sometimes the best thing that can happen is for you to lose. I know it sounds silly, but it’s really quite true. You see, when you are on a big winning streak sometimes all you see is that buckle, ribbon, or check that you’re going to get if you win. You get a little bit cocky and big headed, and pretty soon all you care about is winning. You get to a point where you don’t even care about you and your horse being a team, all you want to do is win. You start taking all the credit and not giving any to your horse. There is no “I” in team though.
Sometimes the only cure for being cocky is a big slice of humble pie. It’s the best cure, because when you lose it puts everything in perspective. You begin to see that if you want to win and be successful, then you need to give credit to your horse and become a team again. You have to learn that it’s not about winning, it’s about having fun. If you had fun but you didn’t come in first, you still won. I’d rather be a team and have fun than win and not be a team. That’s the way everyone should feel. Just remember that you can’t run around the barrels by yourself, you can’t jump over the next jump by yourself, and you can’t trot around the arena or ring by yourself. It’s you and your horse. It’s a team effort.

Barrel racer, this is so well written! I can think of a few people who need a slice or two of humble pie. :-?
Anyway, great job! :)
All I can say is…I totally love it! The way you wrote it, your style, sentences, everything! It would be a great honour to have you as a Junior Blogger! Also, thank you for writing it- it’s really cheered me up since I haven’t done so well in tests this term and I usually was at the top. :D I can finally give a sigh of relief that I’m not going idiotic. 8-}
