Conquering Writer’s Block

Have you ever wanted to write, but couldn’t? Really couldn’t? It has happened many, many, many times to me. I hate writer’s block, the shadowy thing that lurks in the back of your brain, and when you are scared, it pounces on your writing hand. It is the blankness in your brain, the weight on your pen, the lead in your fingertips, the fear. In essence, writer’s block comes from your fear. But you can conquer writer’s block easily, by following these four steps.

1) Read. Reading a good story is a way to unlock your natural creativity. But DON’T plagiarize. That will just get you in trouble.

2) Draw from personal experiences. Writing about what you know should be easy.

3) Use your imagination. Just because you write something doesn’t mean it’s the truth. You don’t have to write nonfiction, or even make sense, just write. Write to conquer.

4) Lastly, don’t be afraid. Courage is the sun burning through a cloudy day. If these don’t work, just wait. Sometimes, you have to be patient.

Armed with creativity, your own experiences, courage, and your imagination, you should be able to dispell writer’s block, and thrive. You can do it! You just need to know it.

  1. Wow! Maybe you can dig deep into a world others don’t believe in too and spark imagination! Write about something no one thinks is real! In most of my books I write about the animals talking to each other becuast it makes it fun! Let me tell you, If YOU arnt’ intrested in what YOU write, your readers won’t be intrested in what you write.

  2. Great blog! I have had writer’s block loads of times. It a miserable thing.
Also,I’ve found that taking a break and going for a long walk or painting helps me get over my block.

  3. Writer’s block is tough. Here are my ideas:
Take a break and listen to music ( music can spur great ideas in your head)
Go hang around with friends and talk about what you could write about

  4. Awesome blog!!! I’ve gotten writer’s block tons of times and what I do is take a break. I’ll just forget about it and something comes to me when I’m not thinking about it. It’s never good to keep writing when you’re frustrated.
