Expanding Our Herd!
Published by LeadMare • Feb 9th, 2008 • Category: GHC NewsI’m downright overjoyed to announce that Girls Horse Club has a new (and very important) member! This not-so-young horse girl started editing your Loft Book Club stories and blogs just a short time ago, and is already proving to be a HUGE help. Girls, meet our new editor…
Hi girls! My name is Taylor, and I’ve just joined the herd as an editor of your stories. I love reading and I love horses, so I’m sure this will be a very enjoyable experience! I first fell in love with horses in the third grade when I started taking lessons with four of my very good friends at a place called Morning Star Farms. There, I rode for about four years, learning how to post properly and jump and generally having an amazing time. In sixth grade, our parents told us they wanted to see about having lessons somewhere else, so we (reluctantly) went to another farm in town. When entering one of the barns, we noticed something weird — our names were on one of the horse’s ownership plaques! Our parents had gotten us a horse! Owning Sylvester was one of the best times of my life, and I will always treasure my favorite friends — both human and horse!
About me now: I’m 19, I love reading, listening to music (I like bands like Arcade Fire, the Shins, the Smiths, and Talking Heads) and hanging out with my boyfriend Sammy. I also like hiking, baking cakes, watching The Office, and drawing unicorns.
As for my future plans, I am majoring in English at UC Berkeley, as I want to become a children’s book editor. I love kids’ books, and I spent my entire high school career working at an independent bookstore, so I have read quite a few of them. I was also a copy editor at my school’s newspaper, and in doing that, I learned that not only did I enjoy editing; I was actually fairly good at it! Also, I can be sure that this is a job I will enjoy. Of course, it’s for this reason that I jumped the chance to start editing these stories, and I look forward to reading each and every one!
Regarding personal things about me, I am very close to my family and my lovely boyfriend, who unfortunately is going to school in Pennsylvania. I’ve started doing yoga since I came to Berkeley, and I am really enjoying this as well as walking and exploring campus. I’ve been having a great time reading horse stories so far, and I can’t wait to continue — it’s amazing what great imaginations are out there.
Initially Taylor will be editing Loft Book Club stories and blogs. She’ll also have a strong say in selecting the Judge for Yourself finalists each month. Please welcome Taylor with a friendly chorus of nickers and whinnies!
