Fairly Fair Horse

Noise and laughter fill my ears
with a hustle and a bustle
of little two-leg feet

It smells so good here
with the crisp roasting of apples
and the constant smell of sugar playing
on my lips

I hear a strange sound the two leggeds call music
it is loud and causes my ears to swivel about
but my mistress seems to like it

She taps her boots to its rhythm as she fills
my small feed box with sweet smelling hay
oh the golden stalks freshly gathered from the earth-
it’s what my kind lives for

I can see and sense the others around me
some of the colts are rolling their eyes in fear and
are becoming very nervous
Can’t they see this place as an opportunity for a
chance to live?

Not every colt gets to enjoy such a array of excitement
One of the older two-leggeds places a shiny blue cloth on my
stall door. It has no meaning to me but it seems to make my owner happy; only to enthrall me ever more

This thing the human’s call a “Fair”
It reminds me of hay; sweet, savoring, and fills one with anticipation at the very thought!

  1. This is Dedicated to my friend’s quarter horse Wytt and his first time at the fair. ;0)

  2. It’s so cute how the horse doesn’t understand some things around him, but he is still happy because his owner is. The last sentence made me smile, it’s just what a real horse would think. This poem’s description is so colourful in a sense like I’m at the fair myself. Beautiful writing once again, I could only ever dream that I can write as well as you.

  3. This is really cute. I can practically see the horse looking around, wondering what’s going on. I love it!

  4. Really cute :)

  5. Adorable! I love how the foal is so happy that his owner is happy.
Funny, we just got back from a county fair! Very good, HorseFeathers!
