Feeling Blue on a Rainy Day

Us horse girls absolutely detest it when the weather turns against us and rains. For when the droplets start to fall, it means no riding. That is extremely depressing since you’ve waited a whole week for your few hours to spend with horses! And to add to your troubles, horses and ponies are usually scared of the unusual pitter-patter of rain, the roar of thunder and whips of lightning. This is going to be another long week for everyone in the horse society.
On the outside, stormy weather may be a recipe for disaster but you know what they say — everything has a good and bad side.
You may just have to wait another week for the chance of trail riding, but think of the good deeds that come as a result of rain. The dry grass and plants on the trails will now have a chance to freshen up and prepare for greeting you when you return on a sunny day. And with the drought here in Australia, everyone appreciates some precipitation.

Also, have you ever noticed the scent of nature and plants when the earth is wet? That’s something else to look forward to altogether. After the storm you can enjoy the revived blossoms and leaves, at the same time connecting with the smells and movements of Mother Nature. Animals like birds and squirrels sure would welcome a chance to spread their wings or scurry about their usual routines after being cooped up.
Though rain takes away what you expect on a trail or riding lesson, it also gifts the land and riders with a whole new experience altogether!

Nice job Madi! Can I call you Madi? Anyway I know kinda how you feel if I’ve been waiting for a trail ride or some jumping in the nice outdoor sand arena but luckily my barn has a small covered arena and one huge indoor one! :D But around this time of the year where I live everyone wants to use the big indoor one which means less space a one hour of hectic riding so I dont get off that easy!
I love riding in the rain. ’specially on Buck.
Nice job, five stars
Thanks everyone, and sure, you can call me Madi. ;)Jeanna, I see you don’t have to worry about rain, it’s just more fun for you! It must be pretty different and exciting. Anyway, have a great time on Buck!
Cool, five stars! Thanks a lot Horsejo, you’ve lifted up my spirits! :D
I’ve never riden in the rain, but I’d think it would be really fun! I know how you feel, I was really looking forward to riding on Saturday but then on Friday it started pouring.. :(
Thanks, Madi. Five stars from me to.

Marisa: Hmm, that would be too bad. But look forward to your next lesson, because whichever horse you would be riding would be wishing you were there too! There’s no better exercise than bonding in a trail ride.
Jumper heart!!: I bet it would be a very refreshing experience cantering and jumping in the rain! It gives you a break from all that sweat!
Just keep a heads up everybody, rain can sometimes blur your vision, and don’t slip on the wet ground either! Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy the rain! :D
when I ride in the rain, I just let the horse go in a full gallop. I’ve had Buck for years, and we’ve grown so close, that we can accually ride bareback :D
