Goats and Horses: Best Friends
Published by GHC • Sep 2nd, 2007 • Category: Horse Advice, Junior Blogger Archivesby Cassie, age 11
It may be a strange title, but it’s completely true. One of the strangest horse facts is that horses get along with goats better than any other animal. The reason is that, while other horses may be more fun to play with, a goat will never steal food from the horse, is still fun to play with, and doesn’t mind being pushed around.

These characteristics can be appealing to small horses who are often pushed around and bullied. Goats also make awesome friends to orphaned foals who are small and shy. While the goat will be a kind and gentle caregiver, the goat will also teach the foal to not allow itself to be pushed around. A goat will never harm a horse and instead will make friends. A goat will be a lifelong companion to our best friends.

Maybe it’s time to get your horse a new friend to play with while you’re at school. After all, it’s okay for your horse to have a second best friend!

This is so cool!!! I heard that goats are also good friends to retired race horses!
I love this blog! So now my family has 2 uses for our goat (when we get one again plus we still gotta get a horse, but I can dream right?) 8-}

awwww!!! soooooooo CUTE!! :) i’ve heard this b4!
Yeah this is true. I have goats and horses, but they arn’t best friends. I have show goats and we have to teach them to lead so that we can walk them in the show ring. We take them outside to run them so they build up muscles. Sometimes when the horses are near the goat pen and the goats are running back the horses try to to run them over and trample them. My horses prefer horse company. It saddens me. :(
How sweet Cassie! Well done on your blog! :))
my mum got a goat to keep her old horse fred happy. Unfortunatly fred died when he was 36 an the goat became loanly. We got her another goat to keep her compainy. after about three years later unfortunatly the companion goat died from a ruptured stomach. Luckly now both me and my brother have a pony each to keep her compainy.
