Happy Mother’s (and Mare’s) Day

Mother’s Day is this weekend as I’m sure you all know. Mother’s Day is for moms right? So who says we can’t give a horse we know something for Mother’s Day? Do you ride or own a horse that is a mom, was a mom, or is going to have a foal? Why don’t we all give a momma horse a gift for Mother’s Day? You don’t have to give them their gift on Mother’s Day, you could give them their gift any time this next week.
If you do not know a horse that has been a momma, don’t let that stop you! You could do this for a mare instead (this is what I’m going to do). We could actually make May 11th Mare’s Day!
Here are some gift ideas for that momma horse:
- Brush them for a little longer and make sure to get their favorite spots. Lots of horses love being scratched behind their ears.
- Give them a special treat. Apples and carrots would be a good idea. It is best to cut the apple in half or quarters. The carrots could also be cut to make it easier for the horse to chew. If you are not sure what treat you should give your horse, ask your riding instructor (if you have one) or the owner. Sugar is not necessarily the best treat as it could mess up their teeth, just like sugar can do to our teeth! But it won’t hurt them once in a while!
- Take them for a nice leisurely ride.
- And use your imagination. I know that you will be able to come up with a great gift that fits you and your horse.
And don’t forget to tell them, “Happy Mare’s Day!”

Aww such a great idea pampering mares on Mother’s Day! I’ll make sure to say the words to the horse I ride on Friday. Now I have two things to look forward to, spending extra special time with and riding her! Great imaginative thinking there, and congrats on your first blog. I’m sure you’ll show amazing things in the future.
Horsecrazz and Blaze’ncowgirl, you’re very sweet to wish me a happy mare’s day. Making sure our virtual herd is safe and well fed with great content is something I enjoy, but it’s your *real* mother who’s the hero of your herd. Please tell her thanks and happy (belated) Mother’s Day from GHC!
OMG I completely forgot… it’s the same in England right? I hope not :). I think it’s in March over here, sorry Mum if it isn’t! Oh and happy Dam’s Day to the little pony who I live near who just had a foal.

This is a very nice blog you did Blaze’ncowgirl! You were very creative with the title name too! :) Momma horses need a day set aside too. Your blog reminded me of the pregnant paint horse at the stables I go to.
The baby is due in a few weeks too so we’re all very excited.
