Hidden Hope
Ponder this: Is the horse looking toward you or toward the light?

by Madelaina, age 12

Being allowed to get a horse is all too exciting for you! You’d get to ride it everyday, groom it everyday, play with it everyday, bond with it everyday, train with it everyday and so on… But the best part is, you’d choose him or her! Wait, that might just be the problem.

There also might be a chance that your dream stable isn’t advertised on the internet or in pamphlets, but on a street you have never passed before. Your friends might have never noticed or heard of it, but it still perches in the mind of a successful rider. All you might have to do is look harder and find it on a road you travel almost everyday. There’s always one out there, you just haven’t seen it.

What if things at school aren’t too well either? You’ve failed your maths test when all you made were silly mistakes, and lost a notebook you got for your birthday. With all the different places you’ve looked, it’s hard to believe your eyes would ever meet up with your notebook again. And to prove it, you had weeks upon weeks with no traces of it or any luck seeing it.

But all you might’ve done was misplace it, and you might not have done your studies well lately. The secret solution is to try and remember when you’ve last seen your notebook, or do your best to make up lost scores in your best subjects.

Whether it is concerning searching for a new horse or pony, looking for a riding school or hunting for something you’ve lost, always keep your hopes up. You never know when it’s your lucky day. Who knows? With one word you can start off a conversation with someone who needs to sell his or her horse. You might be introduced to a new riding stable, or a student could’ve turned in your lost possession.

If you find your hidden hope and keep your faith, the impossible may just be done.

Author’s Note: This blog was inspired when, after years of begging, I can finally take riding lessons! To all those horse girls out there who want riding lessons or even just one trail ride, but are disabled by either cost, grades or time — there’s always a hidden hope made possible by our love for horses. One thing I’ve learned from these feisty creatures is that you should never give up, and aim for what you love best. Nothing in the world can keep a horse-crazed girl from a horse. To learn more about what I have just said, read my story Flying as One. Hope you liked it, and thanks for reading!

Her daughter did riding at a really cheap stables so my mum got me lessons! I see her there, she works there when I have lessons. :)

  7. Great blog :)
And a huge YAY! For finally getting riding lessons! :D

  8. Thanks so much everyone! I’m really excited about my lessons. But from some reason, it’s always the night before I get this really weird nervous feeling in my stomach. And that’s when I tell myself, don’t worry about your butterflies. It doesn’t matter if other riders don’t like you, or if you’re the best rider, you’ve just got to be the very best rider you can be. :D

  9. it does take a while to find the “perfect horse” but make sure you do find him/her insted of buying the very first one you see just coz you want to own a horse…

good luck with your lessons Madelaina. no matter what do NOT listen to what other people say about how bad your riding is! yes we all fall and have weaknesess and do stuff up but if people are mean DO NOT listen to them! i got insulted a few times when i got my second horse by my now ex-best friend. i got my new horse and then a few weeks later she got hers. i was really happy for her and i thought now we will be able to have soo much fun together riding and everthing on are new horses!:D
but she just told other people how her horse was better then mine! she was also telling people that i was a really really bad rider and stating that she was better then me. all my other horse friends were telling me how I had the better horse and she was just being stupid. i’m not bragging or anything but she was being stupid, we both had horses for our level, i was at a higher level so my horse could do more then hers but if i was in her postion i wouldn’t have done something like that. now the girl is friend-less and barely ever gets talked to. she did also do other rude things like she got into an arguement with my mum and was really rude to my mum, she called my other friends bad riders when they are both amazing riders (much better then me). and she also said that an instroctor was horrible, and didn’t know how to teach. so don’t listen to anything bad that someone says. just foucs on your riding and riding to the best of your ability! :D :D :D
