Horse Slaughter

I respect how you all must feel about horse slaughter. That is why in this blog I will not include details and other things that may upset you.

The old mare stared at the vast land stretched before her. She would’ve loved to go galloping along, just like the old days. But her nostalgic pursuit of her dreams vanished abruptly as a rattling van rusting with age pulled up beside her. She eyed the vehicle as men stumbled out roughly and herded the poor horse inside the back where the scents of past equine relatives floated around. The mare stared outside at the tempting, lush plains and the clear, blue skies that make you soar above your limits as the ramp interrupted her vision of the scenery and blocked out all daylight.
Sadly, that was the last time the old mare was to see her home again.

I know how you all must feel. How young horses can never see the rest of their lives, how old horses wish to dwell in a lovely pasture until their days end, and why innocent horses are punished in such a brutal way. That is why I’ve posted this blog. What is your opinion about Horse Slaughter? Of course, all of you will say “Stop Horse Slaughter!”, but is there a way to end it? It is hard to say just how many horses are sent to the slaughter house every year, and it is hard to say the locations of where the horses came from, or where the knackers are. I hope that I shall be proved wrong. I want to let those cruel people see the meaning in ending the life of a horse. But the question is, how?
We all love horses and we live as one. But where horse slaughter is concerned, we think as one.

I totally agree! If there is a way, I think I would do all I could possibly do to help the horses!
I totally agree! signed 123abc
Thanks. Somehow I wish I can be a great, great rider and head out to the knackers, round up the horses and send those awful people to the police.
There is a way. Just go to the Mary Nash website, it will give you all the information you could want about horse slaughter. Including the statistics of how many horses have gone to Slaughter to date. Just type Mary Nash into your browser, then scroll down to Mary Nash horsemeat website. Mary Nash owned the property adjacent to Dallas Crown and fought horse slaughter tirelessly. Unfortunately she succunbed to Cancer last year just before the Texas horse plant closed for human consumption. The site is now maintained by John Holland who has taken up the fight where Mary left off. There is enough information on that page to make you an expert on horse slaughter for human consumption. There is much you can do…it is all there.
Its Totally Wrong” and there are to many sellouts promoting horse slaughter like the AVMA,AAEP,AQHA,APHA,HCI,Farm Bureau.
Madelaina, this is a wonderful, heart-felt blog. I hope it inspires others to do something about horse slaughter by donating time and/or money, or speaking out as you have.
And thanks to other commentors who have provided resources for those who want to learn more. If you decide to do some research on your own, be prepared for the possibly of seeing troubling images.
Thank you everybody. I will check the Mary Nash site right away.
I went to a site called AWL, Animal Welfare Legislation and saw really awful pictures. But it teaches you a lot as well.
I totally think that we should all stand up and speakout! I am thinking of starting a website for horse slaughter.
Also some times it is not the killing that is bad it is the conditions that the get to the knackers! Also a way to stop it is to stop overbreeding horses. What will happen to the horses that aren’t wanted?
I recently read a bit about horseslaughter in Horsewyse. The editor said that she knew of people that bred their horses just so their kids could see a foal be born!
Another way to stop it is to stop cruelty. Horses that have been abused usally end up unwanted!
SO EVERYBODY HELP NOW!STOP HORSESLAUGHTER!
http://www.hr857.com/ is a great website with information about preventing horse slaugter. There is nothing really gruesome about the site but it could still trouble some sensitive people. Best of all, it has links to representatives you can contact and a petition you can sign to stop horse slaughter in the United States. It’s going to take a lot of effert but in the end I think we can stop horse slaughter.
we think that horse slaugher so very CRUEL and that ppl really should get in BIG trouble if they hurt cute little and big horsies!! LETS END CRUELITY TO ANIMALS RIGHT NOW!! thank you for listening and goodbye!!
I hate people who run slaughter houses and abuse horses!I wish that they could see life through a horses’ point of view to make them see how sad it is!horses own friends and family members get killed right before them!I believe that horses are sacred animals and should not be killed for meat or glue!
Every time i read this, i cry. If you go to http://www.allcreatures.org you can see the bloody, cruelty of this

STOP THIS NOW!!!!!!!!
Oh, thats horrible!!! SOMEBODY SOHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! WE SHOULD ALL TRY TO STOP THIS HORRIBLE CRIM!!!
Hmm…Julia, the website you talked about, is it only for Americans or worldwide? And Horezgal123 I really know what you mean. It’s just for the experience, but why get somebody to breed a new horse, start a new life and buy that horse except rescue the unwanted ones?
I mean, horses are already unwanted, so there are no more point breeding new ones! When I get a horse, I want to rescue it from slaughter, but the thing is, I’m afraid I don’t have enough experience to care for it. Anyway, there isn’t a big chance you get to see the foal being born. So after all it’s all a waste.
And the best thing is not to just protest, but speak to your local horse breeders, or any animal breeder for that matter, to not breed their horses so much and convince their costomers to get a horse from auction. It’s a great idea to make a horse slaughter site. Good Luck with it and please tell me the web address. I’m planning to add links to animal cruelty sights on my website. Thanks everybody for leaving comments!
Madelaina: That website ony goes for US citizens, but I’m not positive.
Ok. Still it works because I’ve got some friends in US. Thanks! You are a great help everywhere I see you!
yay! horse slaughter in the us is over!
i agree!! Why should horses have to suffer, really it is those breeding farms fault. They breed the mare sell her baby, and the babt ends up in a bad home where they just don’t mess with them. Along with people who breed thier horse then think “Hey, I guess i should have not breed my mare, oh well, I’ll just send the baby to the slaughter.” There should be rules or something to control these people and thier selfish ways. All they care about is the money. HORSE RIGHTS!!!!!!
I really understand what you mean lovemyhorses. If there are so many unwanted horses, why breed more? And I get what you mean when you say “All they care about it the money.” It’s not only selling the horses, but when you send a horse you bred to slaughter you “owe” it for introducing it to life in the first place. Most people just think about money, money, money and doesn’t think that horses have rights as well.
I heard they turn some horses into dog food… Is that true?! =( Who would want to eat horsemeat anyway! I bet it tastes bad! People who slaughter horses should think about the life they’re killing and imagine how they’d feel if they were about to be slaughtered! Horses have helped us back when there were no cars and they help farmers, and the horse slaughterers don’t care and they just care about money like Madelaina & lovemyhorses said. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Do horses really turn into dog food & glue? If so I now hate Iams dog food and Elmer glue! =(
MARISA, YES HORSES DO; AND I DON’t LIKE THE FACT OF
IT EITHER!!!!!!!!
OMG!
I think there are 2 horse slaughter houses in texas ans 1 in illinois. i’m not sure though.
christin kreuder, i clicked on your link and there are so many things to click on! I don’t know what to press to find the article about horse slaughter you were talking about. Can you give me some tips?
Goodness! I don’t think the horsemeat is in dog chow. Is it, LeadMare?
Now, each time I use glue I will remember this blog.
It is not just horses who are slaughtered,
dogs, cats, and many more unwanted animals are put to sleep because they have no home:(
I think she is right about the horses. It is not right that horses are being killed for meat and other countreys.
You’re right ponyprincess. So it is best to visit a shelter for a pet before heading for a breeder.
I found out about the glue and dog food from my teacher. Maybe they should pass a law where you have to have a license to breed or idk.
Not all glue is horse bones, and not all dog food is horse meat,it probly says about that on the tin or tube if it is!but i agree slaughter is cruel and wrong, life isn’t there to take away.
If you guys know anyone who is going to get a pet, tell them to go to the Humane Society or an animal shelter. We can do our part in helping the lives of animals be saved. 4 animals,
Ponyprincess
I always pass on that message ponyprincess. And Lizard people do need to sign up to be able to breed an animal, well it definitely goes for dogs. It is true not all glue and dog food is horse product. I wonder if we can sign a petition to the government or something to stop animal slaughter.
Some people would rather send their horses to slaughter when they are in pain than put them down. And they think shooting a horse is less painful.
i do and dont support slaugter. I do support slaughter on these occasions only:
when the horse is old and is having problems
when the horse is suffering
when the horse is gunna die any way
I DO NOT support slaughter on these occasions:
the horse is a perfectly healthy mare, foal, stallion, gelding,or a cross between a zebra and a dog
the horse is very happy and has no problems
I will not even let the slaughter houses get my horse on the online game i play.
these are the only conditions i support slaughter. and please read the whole message before you get mad at me.
I understand i*love*sugar. And I hope putting a horse down didn’t cost so much so no horse had to experience anything like it.
slaughtering horses is cruel and inhumane right now I’m working to stop slaughter! help me to stop slaughter!!!!!!!!!
when they’re slaughtering horses it’s really disgusting IV seen the pictures!! sometimes I just think it’s better to put them out with an inning with a humane shot or over dose of some kind of medicine
there should be a constitution for animals not just horses it should say you have to pay 100 -300for each horse you slaughter or something like that!!!!!
Slaughter is terrible! =(
I have een something like that Anna. If you go to http://www.freewebs.com/anilova have a look around, I made it. And check ot Useful Websites.
i hate horse slaughter! da pp, hu work there shud b slaughtered so they no wot its like!
guess what I’m getting really close to stopping horse slaughter in California!
guess what it out and stop horse cruelty and slaughter but it is very hard to do I have to write about a hundred letters at about 25 e-mails but it’s possible!!!!!
CEI I have to go post up my ideas on to my website
i*love*sugar*: Yiu know there is a differnece between slaughter and euthanzia. Slaughter is very cruel and painful while putting the horse to sleep is peaceful and painless.
I have a great book for you guys to read.
It is about a lady who fought against horse slaughter. ( it is fiction ) The name of the book is: Mustang, Wild Spirit of the West. The author is Marguerite Henry. I rreally am enjoying it. Try it out!
who’s with me well my hundred letters and 25 e-mails didn’t work, so I have a new idea……………………………….. protest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets make a petition with all our names of the people who post here than someone could send it in and we could try and stop all of this.
I agree that horse slaughter should be stopped; but unless all these posts are coming from vegetarians they are all a bit hypocritical. The suffering of pigs, cows, and chickens is no less disturbing than that of horses and we should fight to end all slaughterhouses.
Madelaina,
You are hands down one of the best writers ever! When you write you pull the reader into the story/blog or whatever they are reading by you. If you ever write a book just say so on this site and I WILL BUY IT! Thank you for all the donations of time that you donate to this site! You make it a wonderful place!
