Horses Amaze MePublished by GHC • Sep 6th, 2007 • Category: Gift Horse, Take a Stand

I know many, if not all of us here at Girls Horse Club, are against horse slaughter. I am and always will be. It hurts me that these beautiful creatures do so much for us, and yet we end up sending them away to die, with almost no chance of living. Horses amaze me all the time, just by letting us ride them.
I would never allow someone to put a piece of metal in my mouth, a heavy piece of leather on my back, then on top of all that, have them sit on me! Would any of you? But horses let us do this every day. I think that some horses enjoy being ridden. Some may not, but don’t seem to mind lending us a piece of their freedom, a piece of their spirit. That amazes me.
Another thing about horses that amazes me is their beauty. How can such a large, heavy creature move so gracefully? But in some ways, not knowing makes it all the more beautiful! They have speed, but it isn’t the kind of speed that scares me. It is controlled, graceful speed. Even when they run free, not controlled by humans, they are beautiful, graceful, and amazing!
This is why I am always puzzled. “Why would you hurt something so beautiful?” I ask myself again and again. “Why would you end that beautiful thumping of their hooves, running on the sands of a beach, thumping along with the beating of their heart? Why would you do something so horrible, so mean?”
Horses amaze me. So why do we hurt them?
