How We Could Be

Up ahead are stormy skies
I see the hatred in your eyes
Fear turns violent, this isn’t me
Won’t somebody set me free?
Show me that you understand
And I can work quite well with man
Speak my language, be my friend
And my freedom I will lend
But try and get me to break
It’s my spirit you cannot take
Unable to flee, forced to fight
I may hurt you to keep my life
We could dodge those stormy skies
But there’s still hatred in your eyes
Treat me right, can’t you see
How in harmony we could be?

There are so many people who don’t understand that there are friendlier ways to work with horses other than with force, but am I glad that you do! I constantly find myself astounded by the quality of work that you write, and this poem is far from different. I’m sure horses aren’t the only animals who are forgiving and would want to cooperate without force, so I think everyone should read this, no matter how non-horse-crazy they are. This poem is just too meaningful and amazing for anyone to miss out :D
