I Am a Mustang!

Published by GHC • Mar 13th, 2009 • Category: Poetry, by Violet Inkpen

by Violet Inkpen, age 12

Grace and beauty, fierce and proud, strong and wise, big and loud.
When the wind calls my name I dash away; running, galloping, all day.
It is my duty to guard my herd and find them a place to sleep; I guard the foals with all my strength for they are mine to keep.

The hills where I roam belong to me
I guard and defend them with my life
My mares know it’s our territory
Through all pleasure and strife

I’m called a mustang by those who know
Just how fast I can go
A spirit of the wind a shadow in the night
And If another will challenge then for my mares I fight.

One with the wind, one with the sun
I am a stallion and a leader until my life is done.

I AM A MUSTANG!
