In Memory of Horse Heroes

Published by LeadMare • May 28th, 2007 • Category: Odds & Ends

traveller.gifIn the U.S., today is Memorial Day, a federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May to commemorate men and women who have died in military service to their country.

It’s also a good time to remember the horses who have “volunteered” as soldiers. Over at Real Horse Weigh a Ton, there’s a series about equine veterans — Traveller, Old Baldy, Comanche, and Black Jack. These horses didn’t necessarily die in military service, but they’re heroes alongside the human veterans.

Many horses have died in battle, not just in the U.S. but throughout the world. Please take a moment to pay your respects for their sacrifice.
