In the Night

When the sun goes down
this is their world… not ours
They sing their songs of the hunt
and call to the winds.
Listen little one and remember it well
keep your senses before you
Breathe the silent stealth of the wolf
through the earth and into your hooves
Stay with me for all young seasons
for if you falter and canter on your merry
way, it may be the last time you do so
Hear the warnings of the nightingale
for she senses the hunters coming
But if you hear silence… a deep barrier of nothingness
run little one, run and
follow the hoofbeats of the herd
Never look back into the burning souls
of the slayers
As one, you will never overcome the swift shadows of night
together we stand protected and alive with the dawn.

Wow! I’m gonna quote you HorseFeathers, CHAMPION! lol :) That was such a great poem. I love how you write free verse.
wow………mystical! I love the picture!
Very talented, you are! I like how this poem was about not only horses — like most GHC poems and stories are — but about wolves and any other hunter there might be out there, stalking our beloved horses. Just like Jonannah, i’ll quote you: CHAMPION JOB! Please, write more. I love your style and I especially enjoyed this one…carry on.
