July 26th
Published by LeadMare • Jul 26th, 2008 • Category: GHC NewsBACK TO REALITY, BACK TO VIRTUAL REALITY. I returned home late last Saturday after a wonderful week experiencing Cowgirl Yoga and meeting new horse girls under the big skies of Montana. After ‘horse camp’ ended, Margaret, Annie and I went on a memorable trail ride. We started out thinking we would roast under the warm sun and ended up freezing our bums off. Apparently weather can change quickly in Montana. If you’re an hour+ out on the trail when it hits (and not prepared for the fickle nature of Mother Nature), you just have to tough it out and have fun.
So I did, letting the heavy rain drip through my fashionable (but not practical for rainstorms) straw cowgirl hat, wishing I had windshield wipers on my glasses, and grinning from ear to ear. Then when hail started pummeling my bare arms, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Newkie Brown, my Quarter Horse gelding trail companion, was sure-footed as the trail turned from dust to slippery clay. He never flinched when the thunder boomed and the frozen raindrops hit his sensitive hide. Being a Montana ranch horse, I guess he’s used to it. By the time we got back to the trailer, I was soaked to the bone and hugging Newkie for warmth. It was a blast!
SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN. Are you looking forward to reading what GHC authors have been up to? I hope so, because submissions are coming in faster than a Montana thunderstorm. We have some Blogfest entries, a bunch of stories from new and established authors, and more. Time to get busy editing and updating the publishing calendar… Please note that open submissions have been extended to take some pressure off your muse. Thanks for writing!
THE EMAIL INBOX. Sometimes I receive email from members and readers letting us know what they’d like to see at GHC. I thought you might like to see some of these emails, so here’s one from Emily, age 15: “i really like your website, but i was thinking you should tell people about how wonderful tennessee walking horses are, cause i have one and they’re really awesome horses.” If Emily or anyone else wants to sing the praises of Tennessee Walkers, head on over to the submission form. Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,

Thank you again for the update, LeadMare. I hope you are enjoying these fantastic blogs as much as I am!

Your trip to Montana sounded brilliant LeadMare! I was wondering if we could trade lives just long enough so I can go on one of those once-in-a-lifetime horse camps? But for now, I guess I’ll just sit here and read your recaps :) And of course, thanks for the updates.
I’ve heard a lot about the Tennessee Walking Horse and they are amazing horses. I give full support to Emily if she would like to write a blog on them.
Thanks for the update leadmare! You are so fantastic! I hope you got a little bit of a vacation while submissions were closed!
Madelaina, I like that idea. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia and ride in an Australian saddle. :)
Horsecrazzz, although the trip to Montana was somewhat work-related, it was still very relaxing and rejuvenating. Glad to be back home though — I missed my family and friends (both real and virtual).
I’m glad you enjoyed Montana :). I’m workin on about 3 stories at the moment, I start them after getting great ideas, then I just forget about them! Then when I try to finish them, they go boring and sort of flat, if you know what I mean.
Leadmare: wonderful update, as usual. If everyone wants, I can do a “Dream Horse” blog on the TWH…
P.S. oh, sounds like you had lots of fun in Montana!
Sweetie: None of YOUR stories could ever be boring or flat! you are such an interesting person!!
Sounds like my idea of heaven on earth! So glad you had a great time and thanks for sharing the experience with us. I like to live vicariously through my friends :-)
I submitted a blog for the Tennessee Walking Horse, so I hope Emily will be happy if it gets posted…
