Keep Your Head Up!

You went to the GHC website first thing when you woke up to see how the Junior Blogger finals were going. In your head, you’ve already dreamed of what it will be like to win. Yet, this isn’t what you expected. You blink your eyes and refresh the page just to be sure… but it’s true. You’re not in the lead. Holding back your emotions, you wonder how it could be. You worked so hard on your blogs! You poured your heart and soul into your work. Even though you don’t want to, you have to admit it — you’re heartbroken and a little jealous of the leaders. You keep telling yourself it’s a tough competition and that you did well… but it just isn’t enough. You really want to win the competition. So, what can you do to pick your spirits back up?
1) Talk
One of the best things about our animal companions is that they are always ready to listen! Grab that body brush and watch your horse’s delicately shaped ears swivel to catch your every word. Scratch your dog’s ear and look at his faithful brown eyes agreeing with you. Cuddle with your cat and let his gentle purr reassure you. Feed your goldfish and watch him shake his fins, saying you are a real winner!
2) Treat Yourself
Everyone needs to be pampered at times. Maybe make something good to eat, or go to the mall. Spend some extra time riding your favorite horse! Paint your nails, or take a long bubble bath. You are a special, talented person, and you need to remember it!
3) Switch
Take a break from writing and try something new, or do something you’ve already tried! Paint, sing, or draw something about horses! You’ll be surprised how good it’ll make you feel to realise you have more than one or two talents! Best of all, these things can be done with friends or by yourself.
4) Don’t Be Sore
Ok, so you don’t want to be a sore loser, but you just can’t help it! Congratulate the leaders and let it go. After all, there will be other opportunities! Take some time to practice writing and creating wonderful, masterpiece stories and you’re sure to have a shot in the future!
4) Keep Writing as a Guest Blogger
Blogs are fun to write, and you can get some great comments on them. Getting praise for something you wrote is great inspiration, and it will keep your mood positive. And it just might increase your chances for being next in line when a slot opens up!
5) Remember
Remember that you are talented, and that you knew what you were getting into when you entered. You knew your feelings might be hurt, and there was tough competition. Remember that no matter what, horses (and horse girls) will always love you, and you will always love horses!

Mustang_Heart, this is an awesome blog! It is true that I’m upset about losing the Junior Blogger Competion, and I am a bit jealous of the people who are winning because they have been here longer and can probably write better. :(
Thank you!
I think you ae a great writer! The competition here is so tough!!! Besides, this early in the competition, you never know how things might end up!
Thanx Mustang_Heart, This makes me feel better.
P.S.- omg it’s like you’re inside my head… :-/ :)
thanks for this. it’s a really good idea for a blog. i reckon your gonna someday be a good Jr. Blogger!
Mustang_Heart, you have left me absolutely, completely speechless! And the fact that you aren’t even in the running as a Junior Blogger has set an even greater example. You have such courage to write a blog like this even though you know that your hopes of becoming a JB isn’t possible this time (note: THIS time).
My message to the bloggers in running for JB: There is no point getting upset over things not worthy of your frown. This voting is just like a popularity test at school. For instance, the JBs are like the popular group, and the Guest Bloggers are the normal people. At school I was never the popular one, but people did like me because I was always trying to be nice and supportive to everyone else. Guest Bloggers can be like that, and though you may not be listed as a Junior Blogger, inside you know you are one. :D
Mustang_Heart and Madelaina, your advice is thoughtful and encouraging. I think (hope) our readers look at the JB finals as more than a popularity contest, but you are SO right that being in the lead (or not) does not define your value to our members and readers.
The limit of 10 JBs is somewhat arbitrary for a couple of reasons. One is simply to manage the time that goes into preparing content for publication, and assuring we have enough content but not too much (so everyone is heard). The other is to emulate an aspect of horse shows (and many areas of life) with some friendly competition for those who like a challenge. Since we have so much interest, I will certainly give some thought to how the roster is managed.
Mustang_Heart, thanks for your wonderful, timely advice. What our readers don’t know is that you wrote this blog after entering the last Int*l Horse competition with your story about Bataar. You have insight into and empathy for how others are feeling because you’ve been through it yourself!
Thanks, Leadmare. {:D}
Thanks, Leadmare, for sharing that information with everyone. I was thinking that I should do the same thing! (Remember, inspiration comes from so many places!)
Thanks, everyone, for your wonderful comments! It really makes me feel like the effort I put into things is worth something–and that’s the best feeling in the world. :)
Mustang_Heart, every word in this blog is incredible. I know if I were one of the contestants for a Junior Blogger spot, I would be reading this blog every day.
To all you hard working contestants, I wish you the absolute best of luck. Just remember, if you don’t win, it’s okay to be disappointed. Keep writing, and remember that junior blogger or not, you ARE a good writer.
Thanks for letting all the GB(guest bloggers) have some worhty advice to read, it is very helpful. Though I was never in any real compition to become a junior blogger, there was a few others beign considered so for about a week I was pretty jumpy, and pretty much everytime I visited the blog, my heart fell into my stomach it felt like when I saw there was still no news.
My advice for all the GB, is to definetily keep writing, because being a JB is nothing more than a title added to your name if you think about it, you do the same things a JB does as a GB, writing blogs that share your heart, soul, and advice. ;)
