Knowing When You’ve Won

winning.gifIt’s a girl’s dream to create her own Int*l Horse, but there is a great chance you might not. Out of many fantastic entries, only one is chosen. The competition is tough, especially when all of our writing abilities are off the scale!

I understand how much it means to each of you, and I’ve seen how enthusiastic you have all been. But your mood can be easily crushed just because you didn’t fulfill your dream.

Girls Horse Club doesn’t want to hold a competition to have all but one girl upset and down. Throughout the years, the meaning of competition has been forgotten. Competition means fun and excitement, something you enter to prove your standards, or show yourself and others where you are in the community. It isn’t just about winning, about fame or fortune, but about knowing you’ve done well and being happy for each other.

Here at Girls Horse Club, we are all talented and equal. We all have an equal chance. The outcome is going to be tight, I’m sure, but there are always things like luck and bad days that can pull the winner through. Losing doesn’t mean you’ve failed, you just didn’t succeed that one time, but you should know you’ve succeeded above what Girls Horse Club’s standards are. Each of us raise the bar higher, and each of us help and encourage each other to do that, like through Girls Horse Club Authors Unite!

The most important thing is to know you’ve won. A trophy, medal or certificate is nothing compared to what you believe you have done. Be happy for others, but also be happy for yourself because you have done so well. Even when you didn’t win, you will still be remembered for your commitment in the competition, for your commitment in the future of the Stables. Think to yourself that you could’ve made a difference to Girls Horse Club, and you have.

You’ve spent days planning your story out, creating your horse. That’s hours and hours of work, with the thought of horses and your love for them pushing you on. I know how hard it can be to be rewarded with not winning. By now I can already see Duststorm Spirit in my mind, galloping through the plains she belongs on. Don’t let the fact you didn’t win destroy your image.

Whether or not you have won, I am sure the girls here will still have the courage and kindness to congratulate the winner. A competition wouldn’t be a competition if you didn’t live up to the spirit, but it’s also something that can emotionally damage you. It doesn’t matter whether you win the competition. As long as you did your very best and are happy with what you created, you’ve already won.

Just remember, reality starts with believing, whether you’ve won it or not. I think writing for the Int*l Horse Competition isn’t for winning, but for the enjoyment.

Although there may be tragedy in your life, there’s always a possibility to triumph. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always.
