Let the Contest Begin!

Published by • Sep 2nd, 2006 • Category: Odds & Ends

UPDATE: This contest ended in October 2006. Please click here to read the winning stories and stay tuned for future contests.

You’ve probably noticed the Int*l Horse Contest details are posted. If this is successful, we’ll keep ‘em coming and keep improving. Like everything at GirlsHorseClub.com, it really depends on what members want.

Some of you have asked about prizes for September’s Judge for Yourself contest. Nothing has changed there — winners get a ribbon graphic on their story and are featured in the book club during October. In other words, you get fame, but no fortune. ;)

Int*l Horse Contest prizes will be awarded based on the outcome of October’s Judge for Yourself, and only stories entered into the contest will be eligible for prizes. Make sense?

If you have any questions, chances are others have the same questions. Start by reading the Contest Rules. If you still have questions, click the “Comment” link at the top of this post and we can chat about it here.

P.S. We already got the first contest submissions! Look for qualifying stories to be posted in the Loft Book Club as they come in. All will have “LONE STAR” in the title.

  1. Sounds like an awesome contest, though I don’t think I’ll join. It’s been so hard trying to find time to write my Mysteries Of Shadow Lane stories now that school started, I can’t imagine how hard it’ll be if I try and write a Lone Star story. Besides, If I entered, It would be unfair for the other contestants. Lol, jokes. Their stories are great and I enjoy reading all the different ideas people can come up with! Good Luck to everyone who enters!

  2. Hello! I don’t want to point any fingers, but the beginning of Wildfire | Chapter 1 | How, is so much similar to that of A Passion For Adventure, I think the author may have playgarized the idea! I don’t think that’s very fair to the person who wrote A Passion For Adventure, as they came up with an original storyline, whereas the person who wrote Wildfire | Chapter 1 | How just copied the idea.

  3. Veronica, sorry to hear you won’t be entering, especially since you were one of the people who inspired the idea for the contest! But I understand and wish you the best.

  4. Horse luva, thanks for your opinion.

The same themes and ideas appear constantly in creative media — from writing to movies to art to television shows — throughout history. We read every story that comes through before posting, and often see the same themes and ideas. That doesn’t mean something is plagiarized.

If a great story inspires other stories, I see that as a good thing. If members feel we don’t do a good enough job assuring something doesn’t cross the line from inspiration to plagiarism, point the finger at me since I’m the LeadMare.

  5. When will the next Int*l Horse Contest be? I missed the first one when I wanted to do it a ton, and I really do think that there should be more than four horses. There should maybe be a Int*l Horse Contest every season, so four new horses a year. But a single person should only be able to win first place 1 time a year. Does anyone like my idea or does everyone think I’m crazy?! :P
