Life Must Go On
Published by GHC • May 13th, 2009 • Category: Poetry, by Violet Inkpenby Violet Inkpen, age 12
When strength fails and you are gone
When the sun will no longer shine
When you have passed away and stole my day
And nothing ever seems fine.
What hope do I have to ever hear you call?
What joy can I have when you were my all?
Riding down the trail on just any horse won’t do!
My precious friend, my special heart, I loved you!
And now you lay in wakeless sleep
And now you have death to keep
And the powerful grip of life has failed.
And my hopes and dreams with you have sailed.
All I thought, all I knew, everything was with you.
How can I go on without my friend?
My horse, my horse! Whose life did end!
But your spirit guides me and teaches me to fly
And your love shines on me and stays with me by and by!
And though I sometimes feel sad when I think you are gone,
I know you are with me and life must go on.

This poem is dedicated to all the horse girls (or guys) who have said goodbye to one of their best friends; to a piece of their own soul. Who have lost the very thing that kept them going. The horse that brought joy and that made the sun rise on their heart. The horse that taught them true love and how to be a part of something bigger than themselves. To everyone who feels like their horses are gone forever; may you know that their spirit and their love lives on inside of you.
