Loyal

Your eyes hold love
though your spirit roams free
You are wild as the ocean
Though you always love me

I cannot understand how when you can choose to be free
With love and sacrifice you come to me
Or how you always show loyalty
To a human, a person, mainly me

A mustang at heart and spirit and soul
A friend and companion
The best I’ll ever know
Two worlds are held dear in your heart
Yet loyal you are to me from the start

With love as deep as the river is long
With loyalty in times of fear
A guardian and hero is your song
And I will always hold you dear

Your eyes hold love
Your spirit will roam
But to me you will come
When I call you home.

Thank you my friend, my horse, my hero. Thank you for your love.

  1. It’s amazing how much horses give up to please us and to love us, and this poem depicts that concept flawlessly, just like the rest of your work. Fantastic writing, I could feel all the power yet willingness of your horse and the love in the words.

  2. Champion poem! I love how you show the loaylty and trust between horse and owner.

Cows aren’t smart enogh to love freedom, but other than that it reminded me of DaisyMae(2-year-old-cow)who runs at the sight of anyone, but me.She can’t love her ten-acre feild like the beautiful horse you mentioned, but I kinda know that feeling you wrote. She belongs to no one and it’s of her own free will she trusts me.I can only imagine how much greater it is with a horse that is more than a lesson horse.Your poem says it all!!!
