LET THE FUN (and competition) BEGIN. Thanks to all who submitted entries for the GHC Lyrics Competition, the first step toward creating a theme song. How about a melodious chorus of bugles, whinnies and nickers to HorseFeathers for initiating and managing the theme song collaboration?
Now it’s time for the difficult task of voting for your top pick. Voting closes at end of day Saturday May 16th (midnight Pacific Time) so take your time deciding, then cast your vote on the sidebar. Beyond choosing your fave lyrics, next steps for the theme song are TBD. We’ll keep you posted.

The submission queue is backed up with blogs, fiction and poetry so there’s no lack of great reading for the coming weeks. The publishing and events calendar will be updated as JB and guest submissions are reviewed/edited for publication.
LET’S ROLE PLAY! If you’re interested in becoming a fiction writer, the ability to create a compelling character is a must. Role playing can be a great way to practice ‘getting into character’. Even if you’re not an aspiring author, role playing can be a lot of fun!
On Friday May 8th I’ll introduce a new role playing activity. Once it starts you won’t have an opportunity to ask questions, so speak now or forever hold your peas. :) Here’s how I’m thinking it will work:
1) I’ll post a short ‘backstory’ that will set the context.
2) There’s no limit to the number of ‘characters’ who can participate, but…
3) Only one character per person. Before you chime in, think about the persona you want to take on, and commit to that character throughout the role play.
4) The role play will have an end date. Try to work toward concluding the story by that ‘deadline’.
5) When commenting for the role play, be sure to enter your character’s name (*not* your GHC name) in the ‘Name’ field of the comment form. Your GHC name will not be revealed during the role play. You’ll have an opportunity to decide if you want to reveal your character after the role play ends.

Don’t really understand it yet but it sounds like fun.
Here’s what Wikipedia says about role playing games: A role-playing game is a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters and collaboratively create stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games.
we can try to guess who it who! Which person it what charter! It will be FUN!
Soooo does that mean you can pick a character from a book/movie?

Roleplaying: You MAKE your own Charter. You choose their hirtory, apperance, name, gender, personality, nationality, favorite food, favorite color, everything about them is chosen by youn!

Just a heads-up that the gallery is broken. We’re looking into it, should be fixed soon.
The role playing details will become more clear on Friday when the activity launches. The back story will provide a framework/context, but it’s deliberately open ended so the story can take on a life of its own. You can assume there will be a horse theme… :)

WesternMare, depending on how it goes and how much y’all enjoy the activity, this can be something we do regularly. I like the idea because it’s relatively easy to organize/host and encourages participation from everyone.

Yes, to participate in the role play just give some thought to how you want to introduce your character. We already have our first character ‘Roselyn’, who also introduced another character, a teenage boy. Someone else could take on the teen boy character or introduce a new one. Also, the first role player included some stats about her character. That’s great, but you can also reveal details of your character over time through dialog and descriptions.
Oh and LeadMare, do we have to makeup a character? Or do we have to choose one?
WesternMare, the idea is to make up a character and play that character in the story.

The roleplay is great, I love it :). The only problem is when I log in I find out there are about 10 new posts that everyone has done during the night (for me) so I have to read them all to find out what’s going on :P. But it’s really fun :D.
Sweetie, it is challenging to follow what’s going on with so many different stories running in parallel. When this role play is done we can discuss what worked and what didn’t so future role plays will be even better.
That is so cool, because, I kind of skim, then I miss things, so I have to do that more. :) I’m getting better at it though. It’s SOOO fun!
Here’s a helpful hint.. try to focus around the people you first mention in your story and the characters who mention you. This will help instead of trying to inclue every single person who is included. hope this helps

I really am enjoying this. It’s fun! I really want to do it more often.
It’s true- it is sort of challenging reading long role play comments. But I guess I shouldn’t complain because mine *can* get sort of long :)

Roleplayers, I wanted to let you know that the person playing Roselyn Hanover will not be completing the role play.
If someone else would like to take on her character, I’ll suspend the ‘only one character per person’ rule for that purpose. Alternately someone can create a story line that accounts for Roselyn’s sudden disappearance. I’m sure you’ll figure it out — have fun!
Y’know, everybody in the roleplay, we really need to get hoppin’, cuz we’re running out of time in the roleplay. It ends SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe the roleplay has ended already, every day I was looking forward to being able to participate after school. Thinking up something as fun but easy to conduct is brilliant! You’re an absolute genius, LeadMare, never let anybody tell you otherwise. “Thanks” would never be enough to cover for all that you do for GHC.
Man! I had more to ideas! Oh, well I’ll save them for next time:)
