Hi! I’m Alexa and today is my 18th birthday. I’ll graduate from high school this year and have already started college courses.
I have Cerebral Palsey and started horseback riding when I was 10 years old. Riding helps with my balance and overall physical health.
I was taking lessons from our friend Rob. When he got a job on the East coast he gave me the horse I was riding. His name was Ben. He was a beautiful Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred mix. Even though he was in his 30′s he was the hottest horse in the barn. He looked like he was 16 and all the mares loved him. When he was 37 years old we had to put him down because he had bad problems with his hooves. I miss riding and I miss Ben.

Happy Birthday Alexa! Thanks for sharing a bit of your inspiring story at Girls Horse Club.
ohh it’s so sad to here about horses dieng… I have a friend and her cousin has Cerebal Palsey and she sometimes told me about it so i know a bit about it.
There are some very interesting things there, Alexa, and happy birthday as well! It’s great to know horses can do some much for disabled people such as yourself. I’m glad we share a common horse love.
Happy Birthday Alexa – Sorry to hear about your horse, I’m sure you do miss him. Can’t wait to come out and see the family again. Hopefully next time Ash can bring her husband Chris and MAYBE by that time I’ll actually have some grand babies. Now I have 2 grand puppies. Ashley has 2 Jack Russells, Dodger & Charger. Tell the family I said hello & give your dad a great big hug for me. Thanx honey. Good luck in college although I sure you’re doing fine.
Love you – Annette
Happy belated birthday, Alexa!
It’s too bad about Ben, he sounded like a wonderful horse you loved very much.
It’s great to hear that you ride to help your condition. I used to ride theripudicly a few years ago, now I’m a volunteer.
I’ve worked with several people who have Cerebral Palsey since I’ve been involved in Theripudic horseback riding, and you seem to have come very far!
I hope you continue riding and keep improving!
-Love, Halee
Happy Belated Birthday Alexa! Your story is an amazing one! I am so sorrry to hear about your horse! I have gone throught that pain as well and know how much it hurts, but I always tell myself: At least Fella is in a better place now. I hope you are not grieving to much.
Happy Birthday, Alexa!
I think that it is so cool to use horses for therapy! I’m sorry about Ben. He sounds like a really great horse :(
Just surfed on.. Read your post. Happy Belated Birtday Alexa. Sorry to hear about ben. Hope you keep up the riding. I tried it a few times. I’ll leave the horse riding up to my Girlfriend and her 17 year old Daughter though. The last time I went..Well lets just say it was a Bumpy ride…..I still enjoy petting them though my allergies act up.. But It is worth it…..
