Junior Bloggers

MADELAINA is a 13 year-old author and an active member of Girls Horse Club who contributes thoughtful chapter stories and poetry to the Loft Book Club. Her poem Don’t Judge A Horse By Its Colour was an entry in the poetry contest at HorseBloggers.com. She enjoys blogging about a range of topics, sharing her perspective on the benefits of riding and the tragedy of horse slaughter. Madelaina lives in Australia and has been a Junior Blogger since April 2007.

REBECCA SHYLY (aka Horsecrazzz) has contributed dozens of stories and blogs since joining Girls Horse Club. Her first blog, We Love Them Until Their Last Breath and Beyond, was a heartfelt piece about dealing with the loss of her beloved horse Fella. Rebecca’s writings range from non-fiction like Suzy in the City to poetry like Horse Girls Are and chapter stories like Stolen! Rebecca is 12 years-old. She lives in the US and had her first blog published in July 2007.

SYD made her debut as a guest blogger by sharing advice about Dealing With the Loss of an Equine Friend or Partner. Her article about the Abaco Barb horses inspired others to help save this endangered breed. In addition to her informative blog articles, Syd has contributed to the Loft Book Club with her poetry Wild Horses and This is the Place. Syd is 12 years-old and lives in the US. She’s been a Junior Blogger since August 2007.

STARGAZER first started contributing to the Loft Book Club in July 2007 with her poem The Greatest Teacher of All. She later emerged as a guest blogger with The Gift of Horses, an insightful piece about the benefits of horse-human relationships. Stargazer joined the Junior blogger ranks in January 2008 with the publication of her informative blog The Unwanted Horse, and she continues to contribute to the Loft Book Club with stories like Stargirl. Stargazer is 11 years-old and lives in the US.

SB is a regular contributor to the Loft Book Club who stepped up to the Junior Blogger ranks in March 2008. Her stories and poems have been featured in the monthly Judge for Yourself competition, and readers have acknowledged her talent with awards for Brought Home (1st place, Feb 2008), My Boy (2nd place, Jan 2008), and Never Broken Thunder (2nd place, Nov 2007). Her blogs cover a range of subjects relevant to GHC readers, like her review of the popular Phantom Stallion book series and her insightful piece Fantasy vs. Reality about balancing our dreams with the reality of being a horse girl. SB is 14 years-old and lives in the US.

ALLISON, age 12, joined the Junior Blogger team in March 2008 as a relatively new contributor from the US. Her first Loft Book Club submission, Jorunnr’s Odin, was a finalist in the Feb 2008 Judge for Yourself competition and her poem Someday was a finalist in March 2008. Allison’s deep love for horses comes through in her blogs. She wrote about how to address the problem of Unwanted Horses, and in Resting Place for Ponies she let readers know about a special sanctuary for horses that labor in coal mines.

JEANNA BRIGGS, age 13, has been an important part of GHC since she was 11 years-old. Her contributions include Bonding: We Are One, a blog about the special bond between girls and horses. Jeanna is fortunate to live on a ranch in the U.S., and at times has offered to share advice from her lifetime of being around horses. Before becoming a Junior Blogger in May 2008, Jeanna was an award-winning Loft Book Club author with poetry like Moonlight in the Moonlight (3rd place, Sept 2006), We Are One (1st place, Dece 2007), and ~HIM~ (3rd place, Feb 2007).

SWEETIE first appeared as a GHC author back in December 2007 with her Loft Book Club story Dreams. The excellence of her work was quickly recognized when Piece of Heaven was selected as a finalist in the January 2008 Judge for Yourself competition. In July 2008 she became a Junior Blogger, along with having another story, The Pony Next Door, selected as a JFY finalist. As a blogger, Sweetie writes about a range of topics like how to keep your horse happy in the cold Winter months (Beat the January Blues) and how to stay safe when you’re riding on the road (Safety on the Road). Sweetie is 12 years-old and lives in the UK.

MUSTANGMANE made her debut at GHC with Is a Horse Right for You, a blog about the realities and responsibilities of owning a horse. In addition to writing for the blog, she has contributed poetry to the Loft Book Club, including Tears of Joy, a Judge for Yourself competition finalist in July 2008. mustangmane is 10 years-old and lives in the US. She became the youngest Junior Blogger in July 2008, but you’d never know it by the quality and maturity of her writing.

PONY PRINCESS, age 14, started contributing to GHC in April 2007 when she won her first Judge For Yourself competition with The Golden Egg, a thoughtful story about a girl who sacrifices her dream to help a friend. Her first blog, a review of the classic Maguerite Henry book Mustang: Wild Spirit of the West was published in May 2007. Later that year, Pony Princess entered the GHC Int*l Horse competition and won first place with Moonlight Mirage: A Dream Come True. Soon after that, Moonlight Mirage came to life and she wrote A Dream of Horses, a poem imagining how the virtual horses came to our stables. Pony Princess lives in the US and has been a JB since August 2008.

LEADMARE is the founder and behind-the-scenes girl at Girls Horse Club. She has a long history developing games and educational media for kids and young adults. LeadMare lives in California, USA, with her human and animal family that includes BOO and Hooteeny. She doesn’t have a horse of her own (yet), but spends as much time as possible around horses by taking riding/training lessons, volunteering, and going on trail rides.
