Muck the Gift Pile

Published by LeadMare • Mar 25th, 2007 • Category: Competitions & Giveaways

UPDATE: Sorry, these items are gone. Some were used as prizes, others were donated to an equine guided education program.

We’ll let you know when it’s time to muck the gift pile again!

TIME FOR SPRING CLEANING! Mucking stalls can be hard work. When you’re done, the reward is a smelly pile of you-know-what and a clean home for your sweet horse. In the real-world (small) office of our virtual-world (BIG) barn, we have a mounting pile of horsey products we’ve purchased or received for review. Mucking our office also requires work, but it’s fun *and* the rewards are sweet (although not as sweet as your horse). Here’s the list.

Prize PileMUCK THIS PILE!

Equestrian Challenge (Windows PC or PS2) – An Eventing (Show Jumping, Dressage, Cross Country) game hosted by Lucinda Green. (NOTE: This game is no longer available. It was given to holi beri for her great work creating a walkthrough of the Horsez Game).

Horsez (Windows PC) – An adventure game that’s been popular with Girls Horse Club members. Comes with the added bonus of our Horsez forum if you get stuck in the game.

Airs Beneath the Moon - We have two copies of this teen fantasy novel about winged horses, both autographed by the author Toby Bishop. Click here to read our review.

My Very Own Horse Book – A small book with general horsey information and fun activities. It comes with a small horse model, a box that can be made into a stall, and craft supplies to make an English saddle and a blanket.

girls & horses CD – Templeton Thompson’s latest collection of songs, many of which are about her love for horses. Click here to read our review.

Fun Friends Cell Phone Cover – A plush brown and white horse that will help give your cell phone horsey attitude while also protecting it from damage. Works with most flip-style phones.

WHAT FUN THINGS WILL *YOU* DO TO EARN THESE SWEET REWARDS? We haven’t had time to review all these products, so anyone willing to write a review has a good shot (Note: This requires showing us you have reasonably good writing skills). Otherwise we’re open to your proposals. The products have been opened and used slightly for evaluation purposes, but all are in good working condition.

Share your thoughts in the “Leave a Reply” form below or (if you don’t see the form) by clicking on the comments link at the top of this post. Anyone of any age can step up to muck this pile. (if I wasn’t LeadMare, I’d be fighting you off with a pitch fork to get my hands on that plush cell phone cover… :) )

  1. I am planning on getting a copy of Equestrian Challenge (PC) soon. I would do a review if I can get it in time. Probably by Mid-April however I am not competley positive.

  2. Julia: The offer is still open if you’d like to take this copy of Equestrian Challenge off our hands, but we totally understand if you/your parents would rather not supply a mailing address.

For Everyone: We respect your privacy so rarely ask for personal info, but when it comes to contests and giveaways we generally need a mailing address to send the item(s). The info isn’t shared with anyone outside Girls Horse Club, it’s not used for anything other than mailing the item, and we’re *always* happy to hear from any parents with questions about privacy and/or safety.

  3. LeadMare: Thank you but i can’t give out my address. If I get my own copy I’d still do the review. It’s not really a huge deal for me though. Thanks again.

  4. Julia: Feel free to submit reviews through the Loft Book Club if/when you decide to do something.

For all Girls Horse Club members and visitors, if we need an address to award a prize or give-away, we ask winners who are under 18 to have a parent contact us. Sorry to make you jump through hoops, but barn safety is important.

  5. Where can I get the phone cover? I just got a mobile and I want to make it more horsy!

  6. Em: We’re planning to give this stuff away to members so are asking for ideas about what we should do. A contest? A drawing? Any ideas?

  7. I love ur site!

  8. I Love Horses

  9. I have never seen the “girls and horses” cd before. is it any good?

for the ‘ mucking the stalls’ thing mabye you could have a members draw .mabye drew a different member every month or some thing like that
p.s horse are the most beautifl creature ever!!

  10. Palomino: Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We’ll let everyone know how to be eligible for one of the gifts. Here’s one way: Casting Call For Bloggers

This is a give-away — there’s nothing to buy, no cost to winners.

  11. I like the idea of a drawing contest as well.

  12. LeadMare: I was wondering: After you post the blog entry do you send an email or somthing asking for the mailing address?

  13. Hi Horsecrazzz: Good question. You’ve reminded me this needs to be updated. Most of these items are gone — some have been given away as prizes, others were donated to an equine guided education program.

We do still have a few items and more come in on a regular basis, so when you have your first blog published feel free to contact us and we’ll provide choices and details. But please DO NOT send a mailing address. To assure your privacy, we require permission from a parent.

  14. Thank you LeadMare. Not just for answering my question but for craeting this awesome site! I never thought I would find a site that would combine my love for horses with my love for writing!

  15. I agee with Horsecrazzz! I just can hardly leave this site! I love coming on every day. Whenever I have a free minute I come on. And it is worth it! Thanks LeadMare for making this awesome place

  16. GHC is the best website for girls who love horses to blog! It’s so much fun to go on every day and submit stories and poems, create your perfect horse, or just talk about horses. I talk about horses so much I annoy all my friends! ;)

  17. yeah GHC is brilliant!
Leadmare: if we wanted could we send things to u? to give 2 others for prizes,or is that impossible? ;)

  18. Nothing is impossible Animalsrkool. Our snail mail address is listed on the Contact page. It’s not cheap to mail things from the UK to the US though — what did you have in mind?

  19. Oh well it was just an idea really :$ but if i did send anything it would be a book,or praps a toy.pony related of course.

  20. It’s a very generous thought. We have lots of people who send us stuff just in the hopes we’ll write about it on the blog, so we always pass that stuff along to you. If you have extra horsey things you can always think about donating them to local horse camps or organizations that use horses to help kids.

  21. Ok,well if i find anything extra and i think someone will like it i might send it to you! :)

  22. Leadmare:I have another question, does it matter what you give away, like would you give away a drawing or horsey photo frame?
