Mustangs on the Range

I really didn’t want to be here, babysitting a bunch of cows. I sat on Jade, and shifted my aching rear. Ooohh, when we got back home, I was going to soak for hours. I hurt that bad.
“Jenny, are you tired out yet?” my older brother Alec said, riding up beside me.
“What kind of question is that? Of course I am! I’m no SuperGirl!” I exclaimed. “I am ready to get home and soak for a long, long time.”
“Yeah, me, too. I’m glad I didn’t forget to pack somethin’ to eat,” Alec said.
We rode in silence for a while, then suddenly, Alec pointed. “Look!” I looked.
Strung out on the ridge, a herd of wild horses — mustangs — raced along. Their manes waved like living fire, their hooves pounded out a staccato beat, and their coats glistened like a multi-colored mirror.
“Wow,” Alec said.
I just sat there, dumbstruck. They were beautiful in all their glory. I studied them. There were black horses, and two white ones running alongside a bay mare. A sorrel mare lead them and the stallion, a huge palomino horse, ran in the back, keeping the stragglers from running off.
In a few seconds, the mustangs were out of sight, but their image stayed in my mind. They left their memory permanently imprinted on my brain, and I will never forget their freedom, their joy, or their beauty.
Champion blog! Hoofprints left accross our memories. They are born in an instant yet last a lifetime. Free as the wind… ok i’ll quit carrying on ha ha. Good job.
