My Christmas Pony

Ever since I was very little I wanted a horse. When I was five I went to a birthday party with horse rides — I was hooked. I started begging my parents for a pony. When I was seven, that dream came true.

It was Christmas morning. Just like any other seven year old kid, I had barely slept in anticipation for what awaited me Christmas morning. The day began like all of the other Christmas mornings in my seven years. We woke up, ate my mom’s famous Christmas pastry, we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus, and acted out the Nativity scene. When we went to open are stockings there was a adorable puppy sitting calmly in front of the fireplace. I almost cried because of happiness. Of course I thought that was our only Christmas present. Boy was I in for a surprise. I was ecstatic.

Me and my brothers and sister where torn away from the puppy to open our presents. We went into the room and there was only one present under the tree. Before I got a chance to open it, I spotted a miniature horse pulling a cart carrying some of our dear friends, my teacher and her family. Roxy had a big red bow on her harness. “Oh look, how nice, they’re coming and giving you kids a ride in the pony cart,” my dad said. Of course he knew they were actually giving her to us. The rest of the day was a blur — being taught how to drive Roxy’s cart by my teacher’s husband, my Mom teaching me too groom her, feeding her for the very first time.

That was four year’s ago, and she continues to be the best pony ever. I have so many memories with her; she helped me through the hardest times of my life. When my mother died, she was there for me; I remember laying on her back in the sunshine while she grazed, sobbing into her mane. She never said anything back, just listened to me pour out my broken heart. Every once in a while she would turn her head back and look into my eyes, as if to say, “I’m still listening.” Through the years, Roxy has been there for me, always there for me, and I love her so much for that. I wish every little girl in the world could have pony like her.
