My One and Only

Sadness filled my heart
That lonely, dark time
When we had to depart
And felt nothing inside but grief

Was it my fault? I wonder
He didn’t have to go
Without me, alone as well
It didn’t feel just, or fair

I will never like that day
That sick and terrible day
When I cried until it burned
When something died inside of me

And that something
That something that died in me
Was a best friend
My one and only friend

And that patch that left my heart
Will never ever mend

  1. That is a thoughtful poem mustangmane… I lost my cat and my dog a few years back. I had them since i was born. It is very hard to let go… if you’ve read my blog “Time Goes On” youll understand what i mean. Remember you always have friends on the GHC! =0)

  2. This poem described exactly how I felt when I had to let go of my horse. Those empty places in your heart never do mend, and you perfectly portrayed that in a beautiful and poetic way.

  3. I completely agree as well as understand “… that patch that left my heart Will never ever mend” I lost a horse awhile back and some times I think about him and the times we had together, just us.:’)
I believe that wether or not horses and other creatures go to heaven or not,God knows what’s best for us and only He can decide. And we can always hope!

  4. That was a bitter-sweet poem. I really liked i=it because it shows such passion and skill.
