RAINY DAY FUN. The rainy season has arrived in my little corner of the world. Some people dread this time of year, but not me. Like Madelaina in her blog Feeling Blue on a Rainy Day, I love how it smells after the first rain. I also love the changing colors — green leaves turning shades of red, orange and yellow before falling to the ground. Golden grass being replaced by fresh green growth. Fall is a colorful season.

I also love hibernating at home and rainy day projects. Lately I’m having fun creating new blog banners. First came the spooky banner that made an appearance just before Halloween, then disappeared when Halloween passed (if you missed it, you’ll just have wait for next year). Then the Fall banner above, which came together as though some mysterious force was guiding my mouse and filling my head with many questions, but no answers. Who are these horses? Why are they in the middle of a forest? What is each horse thinking at this moment? What other mysteries are lurking behind the trees? Hmmm, I have a feeling there’s a story to tell, and that one of you are meant to write it…

In other news:

FREEBIES. A new game Horse Rancher has been added to the Freebies section of the catalog. The goal is to build a successful horse ranch by purchasing, feeding and training horses, then entering races to earn money. Give it a try and let me know what you think (for those of you who object to whipping horses, keep in mind it’s only a game).

SPECIAL FEATURES. You’ll notice a new box on the blog sidebar. This is a place for special blogs that encourage ongoing participation where readers can contribute to the topic. The first addition is A Place to Heal Your Broken Heart by Rebecca Shyly (aka Horsecrazzz). I’ll gladly consider other horse-related submissions from authors/members with a history of contributing and a commitment to helping others at GHC.

  1. Wow you’re just geting fall weather? Here in SD,USA we got our first snow Oct. 5 or so! I guess thats what you get for live’n on the Great Plains.:)
All this new stuff, I sure wish I had more free time but with all the stock we have to get ready for winter and school work …….*sigh*
Anyway hope everyone has a lovely fall/winter where ever you are!!!!
Who knows some blizzardy day may come and I can have the computer to myself!!!:)

  2. Funny you mentioned about the rainy weather. I’m in the middle of spring right now and all I can really expect from the weather is rain, rain and more rain. So now I’m on a search for things I can do to occupy myself when outside the clouds are stopping me from going riding. Those blogs you listed would help me greatly :) I was also thinking about what you said about the blog banners. They are absolutely amazing, and I think they should get more notice. Since you said we should write something about the horses in the forest, would there be a chance of having something like another blog festival or a writing challenge?

  3. Happy Spring Madelaina. I’d be happy to host another blog festival or writing challenge. We could even do a story relay. I’ll give it some thought and welcome comments from anyone who might be interested.

  4. Lucky You Madelaina! I’m in much the same area as LeadMare, ‘cept it’s a little warmer here.. but yesterday it rained all day long…Yucky..! Today is really sunny though, so maybe we’re in for some good weather. Hope you all are having a fantabulous winter (or spring)!

  5. LeadMare, I would love to have a story relay. That would be so much fun! The banner is really nice. Right now, we’re in our Indian summer. It’s supposed to end about next week. Ohio has such crazy weather. We probably won’t have snow till like March. (Crazy weather! What can I say?!) :D

  6. Weather isn’t the most exciting topic (especially compared to horses) but it’s interesting to hear what it’s like in everyone’s little corner of the universe. :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about a story-writing activity. Keep ‘em coming!

Now, off to see what’s happening in the historic election underway here in the US…

  7. obama won

  8. As long as the topic seems to be the weather where ever you are…. Yesterday we got our first blizzard>:( its still going on now and has no sign of stopping!!!! Its HORABLE!!! wind chill is -10* and blowing ice/snow at 25-40 miles an hour, with gusts of 60-70!!!!!! Oh, I almost forgot the power lines went down all night, so NO HEAT!!! Ahhhhhhhhh!(:O
I hope the rest of you are warm.Cheers!

  9. Here in CA, leaves are changing color, but most of them are still green. We got a good rain a week ago, and last night.

It is so cold. Very windy too.

And as for the story relay, that sounds like a ton of fun.

Crossing fingers power doesn’t go out…

P.S. It was a pretty amazing election.

  10. Hi everybody!
I’ve been sick, and school is CRAZY, sorry I haven’t published in forever. I am working on another blog- so PLEASE don’t give up on me! (spoiler warning) I’m also working on SOMETHING about Lyssie’s Lucky Star, which should be out before Christmas.

Lot’s of love to all the Horse Girls,
    Jeanna Briggs

P.S. a story relay sounds GREAT!

  11. I agree with the story relay idea- that sounds GREAT!

  12. Wow! It’s been snowing! it’s a big deal ’cause here in the South it hardly snows (even if it’s only a little bit)
