On the Dusty Paddock Floor

Published by GHC • Oct 7th, 2009 • Category: Poetry, by Ginger

by Ginger, age 12

I saw you in the pasture,
you nickered for me,
I set down your grass hay,
on the dusty paddock floor,
You looked at me with those soft chocolate eyes,
I know you want some more.

When I was little,
I followed you around.
I played with your mane,
When I was sad you kept me sane.

Now I am much older,
My priorities have changed.
But I can guarantee
me and you.
That won’t change.

We are a once upon a time,
We are a dream….
My life is in the pool,
My heart is in the pool,
But here,
In a sense.
Here, I left my soul.

I promise though
on the dusty paddock floor
I will stay with you
forever….
And then some more

  1. This is so calm and sweet, yet so beautiful and deep. When everything in my life is hectic and I’m changing as a person, it always comforts me to know that I’m not losing myself because I’m still as crazy about horses as I was yesterday. Amazing poem, Ginger!

  2. awww really heart felt.. good on ya. I like the little triffle on the end “ill stay with you forever and alittle bit more” It made me smile because your devoted forever and after that. =0)

  5. great job!!!!!

  6. Amazing! I feel that way too. I had a choice, to look for a place to take riding lessons (which I REALLY wanted to do,although it seemed impossible to find a place) or take Art lessons right away. I didn’t think that we’d find a place where I could ride horses, and I knew for sure I could start art right away. And I didn’t think we could afford riding lessons every week, thought art we could. Despite my love of horses I chose art, because it is something I want to persue even at collage. I will own a horse one day, and take lessons to, but for now I chose another path. I will always love horses, even if I don’t spend time with them. One day I WILL have a horse though!

This poem explains all that. Life moves on but horses and the love for them always stays the same (except for a few girls who turn all Prissy and boy crazed. *rolls eyes*)
