Once Upon a Sadness

Fresh page. New pen. Where do I begin?
Hope fails, tears fall
I need someone to take the thoughts I’m thinking now
and bury them far away from this pasture

Past the meadow green and cloud flecked skies
Through the wooded glade and beyond the purple mountains

Far away from which I shall never see my beloved Rose again
For these many years we have grown together;
foal and child, laughter combining with joyous nickers

It was the perfect fairy tale you might say
a girl and her horse in a magical, beautiful land
But then that’s all it ever was, a fairy tale

My horse sister is dead, there’s no other way to put it
The black sickness claimed her
and now this beautiful land is just another horrid reminder
that she is lost to me

I know not of a handsome prince to love and cherish
I’m a jeans and t-shirt gal with her hopes and dreams crushed
and no magic pumpkin is going to fix that

Rose… my beautiful Rose

Then again, they say a rose without thorns is never a true rose

  7. That was really beautiful! You say to want constructive criticism… I can’t find a thing, it is really beautiful, emotional, and sad, without being sappy and dramatic, i love that (:
btw it kind of reminds me of a certain taylor swift song (:

  8. That last sentence was one of the best I’ve ever read. If I was to define the word “amazing”, I’d include this poem. I adore every word of it, and I love how all of your poems explore deep meanings. Great job, and I beg you, write more soon!

  9. This is pure love. Astounding.

  10. Wonderful, but sad poem. This never really happened, right?!If it did, I’m very sorry!:[

  11. Rochila, i try and make many of my poems sound as deep and emotial as posisble to the readers can relate to them in different ways. No it has never happened to me personaly with a horse but with my Golden Retriever and my cat in the past. I miss them but they live on in my memories

  12. Is it true?

  13. The poem? No peanut its only true in my fantisies but probably somewhere in the world a horse girl feel the same way.

  14. Man, that almost made me cry…. And nothing I’ve ever read here has made me feel that way before.
It made me think of Spook. His loss is always there, staring at me like an empty hole that refuses to fill… Every time I remember him I think of what could have been, but never was….
I tried to recreate him on your barn/blog, to live out his dreams of being a pole bender, but it is only a ploy to my heart. I just wish he had the chance to compete just once in real life….

Your writing is more then words can express, HorseFeathers. Keep it up… and thanks.

  15. Agreed with I’maCowgirl. You writing IS more than words can express. Each time you write a poem you always leave me to ponder over it until the next one comes out. Champion job. ;)
