Our Hero Maggie

For those of you holding Maggie in your heart since reading the call to Help Save Maggie!, below is an update from Flying Change that includes a link to some recent photos. Thanks to all our kind-hearted members for your healing thoughts and generous donations!

I am sorry that this update has been so long in coming. Maggie got better and got worse and got better and got worse, and frankly, for a while there I wasn’t sure what to say in an update about her. She wasn’t progressing the way she should, but was stable. We were trying to figure out what was causing her pain and none of the usual explanations fit. Finally her latest vet, Dr. Riggs (who is absolutely fantastic) found an abscess in front of the incision. She drained it and treated it and viola! Maggie started dramatically improving.

Right now, Maggie is excellent. Her latest x-rays show the plate is in place and the bone is healing well. She has started walking around the hospital to rebuild the lost muscle in her leg and you can barely see any lameness in her walk. It is amazing. They are going to try to wean her off her pain medicine and antibiotics and see if she stays good. Keep your fingers crossed!

If you get a chance, go to our website www.flyingchange.org and click on Maggie’s Gallery. A spectacular photographer named Kathy Richardson (www.wayfaringphotographer.com) came up to UGA last month and took some wonderful pictures of Maggie at the hospital. She really captured Maggie’s heart in these photos. Thank you again for being such caring people. Maggie has made it so far, against all odds, because she has had support from all of you.
