Pegasus – Part 1

I slowly walked away from the barn, arms wrapped around me to protect against the bitter cold. I wiped a tear, not really knowing why I was crying.
In the barn was a small, sickly, foal. She was mine. I did not want her. I kept walking, away from the barn.
I didn’t stop walking till I reached my special place. It’s a clearing in the woods, surrounded by evergreen trees, so it’s always green and it smells good, too. There are flowers in spring, summer, and fall, and it has a thick carpet of moss.
Once I was safe in my place, I just sat, almost weeping. Then I heard something behind me.
I spun around to face a huge milky white Pegasus. I gasped. Then I totally freaked.
“Oh, my gosh! A PEGASUS?!”
“Yes,” the Pegasus said, his wings fluttering slightly.
“Oh, my gosh. You talk?”
“Yes. There are many surprises in store for you, Talia.” I could have sworn the Pegasus was smiling.
“Um, since a Pegasus is talking to me, I guess there must be,” I said.
“You have a daughter of mine,” the Pegasus began.
“That scrawny little thing? No way is she a Pegasus!” I burst out. “Sorry.”
“Looks are very deceiving, Talia. You take care of my daughter, and she will reward you.”
“Okay.”
The Pegasus turned and cantered slowly away, and I watched him go, pondering his words.
I returned to the barn, hugged the little foal, and stayed with her all night, feeding her and just watching her. I saw similarities between her and the Pegasus in the woods. For instance, they both had delicate features, and high, Arabian-like, crests.
I named the filly Skyla. For two years, Skyla grew much like any regular horse. That all changed one morning.
I had awakened from a dream about Pegasi, and raced down to the barn to tell Skyla about. Skyla was my chief confidant. I told her everything.
I entered the barn, and stopped short. Skyla had wings! She turned her beautiful face towards me and winked a purple eye. She’d always had those eyes, a sign of her unusual background, and they unsettled my mom.
Her wings were beautiful, silver with purple and blue feathers scattered throughout. They rose to the top of Skyla’s stall, and she wanted out.
I climbed on Skyla’s back, and we went outside. Skyla slowly beat her wings, and we rose into the air. We were flying!
I whooped. My wildest dreams had finally come true. I had just needed to believe.

Wow, even though this story isn’t as long as others, looks are very deceiving :D There’s a collection of simple but important meanings that you’ve covered excellently in those words, like how in life you need to believe, or how you must think beyond looks. Brilliant writing mustang23! I’ll be anticipating Part 2, if there is one.
CHampion story… that was short and sweet. Are the wings only visible to the girl or can everyone see them? Do you think she would have taken care of the foal if the pegasus never met her? good job

Awesome story. :) I love the purple eyes thats like awesommeeee. My future horse will have purple eyes and if not I shall give it those tinted contact things xD yeah right.

Okay, sorry I haven’t been posting, I’m at my grandma’s house, but I got on. Soo, to answer your questions, Madelaina, there is another part, but it might not come for a while. I won’t keep you waiting too long though. HorseFeathers, I guess the wings were only visible to Talia, and if the Pegasus hadn’t met her, well, it wasn’t looking good for Skyla. SweetPea, I’m guessing Talia was one of those girls who care about their appearance and the appearance of their things. I, for one, would be happy with a horse the size of my hand! Thank you for the nice things you said!
