Perspective

Sometimes it’s good to step back for perspective, especially when you’re stuck. If you’re frustrated trying to accomplish something — a new riding or training milestone with your horse, a (home)work problem, a story you’re writing, or anything in life — try stepping back. Do something different. Use another part of your brain, or give your brain a break and listen to your heart.

“You haven’t seen a tree until you’ve seen its shadow from the sky.”

~~Amelia Earhart

Something that seemed big and scary up close can be small and insignificant from a distance. Something you had missed may come into your vision. Perspective helps us see the bigger picture, the horizon, and the blue sky. With perspective, we can see the future, determine the best path, then begin to move forward.

Wikipedia says: Perspective in theory of cognition is the choice of a context or a reference (or the result of this choice) from which to sense, categorize, measure or codify experience, cohesively forming a coherent belief, typically for comparing with another.

Perspective also gives us a renewed appreciation for our blessings. Often we go through life assuming that everything we have is a given. When we take things for granted then they disappear, we regret our lack of appreciation for what we had. With perspective, there are no regrets.

“Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Appreciate your friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.”

~~Mary Anne Radmacher
