Phantom Stallion

The majestic silver stallion
Gallops gracefully across his land.
His land where he can be free.
His land where he can fly,
On his blue wings.

He is untameable,
For his spirit lives in the land of freedom.
The land that no one can claim.
The stallion is free,
Forever and always.

He flies solo,
Because no other can relate to him.
He is unique,
Silly,
Strong,
And mighty.

But what about his girl?
Sam, the girl who gave him this glorious freedom.
Can she fly with him?
No.
For he is too wild,
Too brisk,
Too free,
For her.

Sam is his friend.
His only friend.
The only one who understands.
Friends don’t turn on you.
She knows,
And he knows,
The truth.

He longs for her,
Forever and always.
But he knows that she will not come.
He looks past the mountains and valleys of his land,
But Sam does not come.
Those days are over.
He knows.

Why must they be apart?
Is this fate or tragedy?
Destiny or calamity?
Stallion will never know,
For the spirits of the land forbid him,
Forbid from her.
And he will be longing for her,
Forever and always.

He whinnies,
He is calling,
Calling for her.
Sam does not come.

Stallion turns to gallop away.
He takes one last look,
One hopeful look,
Just for a sign.
The wind blows his silver mane,
As it ripples in the dim sunset.
A sign.

Why?
Why did his only friend leave?
The only one who cares,
Cares for him,
Is her.

He knows he hurt her,
But it was an accident.
Accidents happen,
But not all accidents are forgiven.
Sam forgave him,
If only her father were that type of person…

Memories are brought back to stallion,
He kicks and bucks, he rears and screams!
Anger fills his soul as he is reminded why they are apart.
But it settles down in a soft hiss of tranquility.
Stallion breathes heavily,
But he understands.

He understands that this is why they are separated.
He cannot be contained.
He is like lightning.
So fast, so quick.

So stallion gallops off,
He gallops past the mountains,
Past the skies,
Swift and graceful.
He gallops so fast,
That he has to stop,
And wait,
For the wind to catch up with him.

He spreads his wings of great freedom,
And off he goes.
He longs for her,
Forever and always.
Because for the stallion there is only one girl,
And for Sam there is only one horse.
They belong together,
Like pieces of a puzzle.

The stallion is like a ghost.
Like magic.
He is so fast, you can hardly see him.
A mysterious legend known as the Phantom Stallion.
But only Sam knows he is not just a legend.
Phantom Stallion flies solo,
On his blue wings,
For now.

  4. Wow! The Phantom Stallion series are my fave horse books, I read em all at least twice. I love this poem, it so detailed and very descriptive. I like the part where it says,
    He gallops so fast,
    That he has to stop,
    And wait,
For the wind to catch up with him.
That is soo beautiful!!! This was an awesome poem!! Keep it up!

  5. I LOVE the Phantom Stallion books And on Christmas got the rare one, #4 The Renegade

  6. The Phantom Stallion (and Wild Horse Island too) series are phantastic, lol! I love the poem, it described the legendary stallion so well!!! :)

  7. The Phantom Stallion books are one of my favorites, they’re what got my best friend Sarah hooked on reading. She didn’t like to read before, but I’d keep lending her my favorite books, since I read anything I can get my hands on. (When I was ten I read this five-hundred page book of my dad’s about Abraham Lincoln…I loved it even though it was hard to understand sometimes.)
I loved the first & last verses the best. They really sum up the Phantom specifically, and wild horses in general.

  8. Wow, it’s great that you wrote this poem from the Phantom’s opinion- love it! He’s such a sweet-sounding wild horse! It’s like you explaned the whole series in one poem. Good job!!

  9. Exquisite poem! I love the mystery and the suspence. Kept me on the edge of my saddle even for a poem. Champion work on the poets part as well as the work of Mrs. Farley for the mustangs!

  10. Oh, i loved it. I love the Phantom Stallion and you portrayed him very beautifully! Keep up the good work.

  11. What a deep and moving poem to return home to! You’ve done such a beautiful job, the descriptions are brilliant. Each word speaks so much about the stallion’s spirit and his bond with Sam. This is one amazing voice that is speaking for the wild horses!

  12. This is an excellent poem! It demonstrates the Phantom’s unbreakable bond with Sam, and how they will never be torn apart. I have only read a few of the Phantom Stallion books, but I have read & own ALL of the Wild Horse Island books. Terri Farley, you are AMAZING. =) I can simply imagine the Phantom, running free yet unsure of what to do, for he is missing his great master and protector, Sam. Oh, how I wish that every horse could bond with his rider like that. I have been one of those lucky enough to bond with a horse – but unfortunately, that horse has passed away. But I will never forget that strong bond between my horse and I, the one that is unbreakable and the one that I will never forget. It is impossible, when you have that strong bond with a special horse, to forget the look in the horse’s eyes every time they look at you. I wish that everyone could feel this feeling. With this poem, though, it is possible to get a glimpse of the wild horse’s freedom, AND that special bond between horse and rider. Amazing poem. Wicked awesome work – probably in my top 5 favorite poems I’ve ever read. Please, please, PLEASE keep it up. =)
