Practice Makes Perfect

Are you the black sheep in the family, the one who is weird and stands out (not in a good way)? That is like me, but what makes me special is my love for horses. I can’t have a horse, but I take lessons. If you have that passion for horses, then go ask — it is worth a shot.

practice.gifLet’s say you already take lessons. You aren’t the best and most experienced, but you have that extra special thing that takes you away from being a beginner. That’s like me too. To get to what you want to be, a professional, you want to overpower everyone. Don’t do that. It takes time to earn experience. You have to watch, listen, and learn from your instructor. I know what you mean, you just want to fly over jumps and canter forever on. Slow down with your imagination. If you work long enough, you’ll get there. I want to canter and fly over jumps too. But I realized waiting is what the others did.

Two other people at my lesson barn have been riding for six years. I now understand it wasn’t just them getting to be so experienced because they had natural talent. They practiced for a LONG, LONG time to earn that experience. You have to work hard, be the best you can be. Practicing at home could help you get slightly better like me. Play on a friends trampoline and practice your two-point. Get on your bike and practice controling it and getting it over jumps (through grass, ditches and hills of course). Get on you scooter and walk, trot, canter — anything to motivate you to get better.

You may not be a pro the first, I don’t know, twenty times. But let me tell you now: No matter what, do NOT give up. I know you’re thinking, “Oh, I’ve heard that saying millions of times. I get it.” And I know you all have heard it, but it really takes a long time to nail your goal. Maybe if you get experienced enough you’ll switch horses. Good luck, and use my advice anytime. Let your instructor know you are ready to move on, not by telling her but by showing her (or him).

  1. Great blog! Practice really makes perfect.

  2. I’m Lauren, the one who wrote this blog. I know it could be better with more fansy words, but this is my first blog. I was trying to give it all I got. Hope you like it and enjoy!

P.S: I will now change my username to Lauren, which is my first name in real life. You can just call me that now. ;)

  3. Hay Lauren – You did a great job with your first blog! I’ll go ahead and change this one to ‘by Lauren’ so readers won’t get confused. Hope that’s what you wanted. :)

  4. Keep writing and trying your best. You might be the next Jr. Blogger! Keep up the good work!

  5. Great Job Lauren! I’ve been looking forward 2 this blog for a while! Great Job and your totally right! And you don’t need fancy word 2 make it better! It’s great!

  6. Practice really does make perfect! And I want to be a really good rider so I practice my posting on my bike, I excersise my arms, and practice jumping out of the way of fast cars just in case a horse goes insane and tries to trample me! lol I was just kidding about the last part!

  7. You’re right Horsejo! I’d love to have Lauren as another Junior Blogger! And I don’t think any fancy words are necessary, it was awfully good for your first go! I would’ve thought you had been a blogger for months already! :D Keep it up, I’d love to read more!

  8. Cool! and totally true! I need lots of practice, too. Five stars, Lauren! :D

  9. Thanks so much, and I meant to put fancy instead of the s there. And yes LeadMare, that is what I wanted, to change magicalhorse97 to Lauren, so thanks about that. Everyone- Just on this page I am making a very, very, very little contest. I need help knowing what I could write about in my next blog, so I will probably choose the winner either between Decemebr 7th (today a.k.a Friday) and December 12th (Wednesday). Hope you come up with some good ideas and thanks a billion times. I appreciate you all. :D :) ;) O:-) :-h

  10. This is pretty interesting Lauren. I don’t know specifically, but here are a list. There wouldn’t be any fun if I told you what to write!

    1. A review- Horse girls are always eager to learn and read about horses. Why not introduce a book or movie to GHC?
    2. Riding experiences- If you take lessons, or go on rides, you can write about that and share your experience.
    3. Post a tribute- Talk about your horse, whether the one you ride or own, or your stable where you ride. There are many forms of equestrian centres out there, and in my case, it’s fun to learn about them! A friend might have passed away and you wanted to remember him or her. I’m sure there would always be someone to comfort you through the comments!
    4. Horse breed or sport- Write about a horse breed or sport. (eg. Quarter Horse, Showjumping)
    5. Go on google and research “horse facts” or the likes. You’d never know what will come up. Look up a point and try to expand on it.
    6. Horses, horses and more horses! Let us know all about horses! Anything from training, to grooming, to riding. Anything at all! It’s just like letting a mustang loose on boundless plains. I’d definitely file that under useful!
    7. Save the horses! Write a blog about saving horses and the things we can do may it be a blog about donating to a shelter or horse slaughter.
    8. Horses in your hearts- Talk about how important horses are to us, the reasons and why they are loved so much.
    9. Get inspired- perhaps something happened and inspired you. You’d never know how fast and furious a spark can fly. Reading through old blogs help too. They’d give you a brief idea of the range of things you can write about.

Phew, there we go. Finally done. Sorry if it was boring, it was a long one. :D Hope this helps!

  11. Madelaina- #3, it sounds good but I don’t have a horse of my own! These all sound interesting though! Thank you so much for the list!

Everyone- Keep up the entries! They are really helpful for me!

    :D

  12. No problem Lauren. I don’t have a horse either, but I’m waiting for a time when I get one, whether he or she is the horse I ride at lessons or the horse I actually own.

  13. I’ve decided I am going to write about the movie, Dreamer, as my next blog. A tribute to that and to refresh everyone’s mind about it because it came out quite a few years ago. How does that sound? :D

  14. That sounds great! I’ve never heard of the movie Dreamer before, but I’m eager to read about it. I can’t wait until it’s published! Good luck with it!

  15. I realized we can’t submit stories or blogs until Decemebr 15, which is when December submissions OPEN> Silly me, I am so eager to write a story! :)

  16. I decided, Madelaina, I am not going to write about Dreamer. I MIGHT (keyword: might) write about all the girls here at g.h.c. (not all of their names, but you know what I mean). I hope to hear more from you and the other girls! Bye. :-h

  17. Sounds pretty good to me. It’d sure be interesting when it’s published. :) But I bet it wouldn’t do any harm if you wrote both blogs! I always like to hear from everyone.

  18. See, not a lot of people know about the movie Dreamer, so I am goin to talk about something else. Bye! :D

  19. Please keep on writing comments! I wrote 2 blogs yesterday and I hope they post sometime in January! :)
