May 18th

GOOD MORNING! It’s a beautiful Spring day here in California. Coastal fog has returned to the San Francisco bay, bringing some inland relief from last week’s heat wave. I’m wrapping up work around our virtual barn, then will hurry to complete the not-so-fun weekend chores before heading outside to enjoy the day. But first, some quick updates…

BLOG REMODEL. Slowly but surely most everything has moved over to the new blog (many thanks to The Equinest for her helpful tips). If you uncover any problems — like broken links — don’t hesitate to contact me.

SUMMER FUN. Along with summer comes fun events and competitions at GHC’s virtual horse camp. I recently heard from Terri Farley who expressed interest in another guest appearance. Yay! Your summer fun ideas are welcome, and I’ll keep you posted as plans are solidified.

UPDATE: Dates are set for Terri Farley’s virtual visit! She’ll arrive Saturday July 5th and will be available to answer your questions through Friday July 11th.

THE CATALOG. Soon I will initiate the next phase of remodeling — our Catalog. Most likely I’ll get rid of the Amazon store. GHC has been an Amazon affiliate for many years, but the pennies earned from referring traffic/sales to Amazon has little value compared to the effort. I’ll also be re-doing the GHC Gear with updated offerings, and am looking at options other than Cafe Press for an ‘on-demand’ printing partner.

MAY SUBMISSIONS. Today is the last day for May submissions. I hope you’re enjoying all the new blogs and LBC stories. We’re VERY lucky to have such talented horse girls contributing to GHC, and there’s more in the queue to be published after submissions close. Then before you know it June submissions will open (see the publishing calendar for dates) and most of you will have a break from school, so don’t stop reading and writing!

Sincerely,

  1. Thanks for the update, LeadMare! I hope Terri Farley will be able to come to our “Interview” sometime this summer!

  2. Thanks for the update LeadMare. School just started after a two-week break, so it would be some time before the holidays come again. However, to ease the stress, I’ve discovered the perfect cure. Yesterday I decided to start and attempt (note the word “attempt”) to read ALL the stories and poems in the Loft Book Club, and I’ve used the word “attempt” because there are so many beautiful works! It’s a great way to spend your pass time and very pleasing to read all the tales involving horse girls and horses. But it would all be nothing without Girls Horse Club and, of course, LeadMare. Once again, thank you so much for your efforts. I’ve always wanted to find a safe haven on the computer, and you’ve made that possible for me :D

  3. This is great LeadMare! As for summer fun ideas I think that it would be cool if we had a showcase of arts and crafts that have to do with horse. Also, if you could recomend horse camps for girls, that would be awesome. And I know that all of is would love to help!

Well, I have to go horseback riding lesson! Hope you all have a great week!

  4. Hey everyone! Terri Farley should be great! I hate to say that I haven’t had much time to contribute to the blog lately because of school, but I have time now! I just finished a blog today, a day too late, but I will enter it as soon as the next submissions open.

  5. Hey LeadMare! Are you going to the Western States Horse Expo?

About cool ideas for this summer, I was wondering if there is anysafe way to start a pen pal program. If not, I understand, but it would be cool if it were safe.

  6. Hi Horsecrazzz. Unfortunately I’ll miss the expo this year. If you’re planning to go, hopefully you can tell us all about it!

I’ll be attending an amazing exhibit called ‘The Horse’ at the Natural History Museum in New York City that week. I’ll be sure to tell everyone about that experience.

Off the top of my head I’m not sure how to do a pen pal program, but I’ll give it some thought if others are interested.

  7. To LeadMare- I found Terri Farley’s email address on her site and asked her about the interview. All I said was that we hope you and Terri talk to each other about it and that we hope she can come this summer. (I also said that we’re all very excited.)

To Horsecrazzz- What is the expo? Just wondering…

  9. Oh…darn! Well I’ll be there and will be happy to report back to everybody back here! wow! Your going all the way to NewYork from SanFrancisco! That is so cool! My mom is going to take me there next year during the summer before 8th grade, so it would be great to hear of any activities that have to do with horses. I can’t wait to hear from you about it! I hope that others will like to do a Pen Pal thing! I think it would be great to send some good old fashion letters to my virual sisters!

  10. I Love Terri Farley! ive almost read all her books!
