Read, Think, WRITE! - Story Relay #1

In equestrian sports, there are individual and team sports. In our Loft Book Club, we have hundreds and hundreds of stories written by individual authors. So why not try some team stories?
Check out the new story, Horses on the Loose. You will be able to write chapters for it. In the end, it will become a long story written by a team of Girls Horse Club members!
Anyone can do this. It’s especially great if you’ve wanted to contribute to the Loft Book Club, but don’t know what to write about. Here’s how it works:
- Click here to read the first chapter of Horses on the Loose!
- To add a chapter, simply sign up in the comments saying something like “I’ll write chapter 2.” If we get more than one person wanting to do the same chapter, we’ll take the first person who comments. Or you can simply say “I’ll write the next available chapter” and when we post the comment we’ll let you know what chapter is yours (you may need to wait for others to finish their chapter).
- Once your comment has been posted by moderators, you’re confirmed as the author of that chapter. Click here to submit your chapter.
- You cannot add a chapter twice in a row. You can add more than one chapter, but we want to give everyone a chance — the more people who participate, the more interesting it will be to see how the story takes shape.
Writer’s Guidelines
- We want this story to be long enough so it’s interesting and everyone gets a chance to participate. So don’t end it right away.
- We want to keep the readers reading. Use descriptive words to catch an eye. Also try to create an image in the reader’s head.
- Don’t use the title and idea of the story right away or in the first few chapters. Wait until later in the story. It will keep the reader reading and wondering what the title means. I love doing this and also love to read stories like this.
- Before you write a chapter, be sure you have read every chapter ahead of yours. You don’t want the story to look weird and not make sense. One time I wrote a story like that, and I forgot what happened. The story turned out terrible! We wouldn’t want that to happen with this story.
- These guidelines are focused on the Horses on the Loose story. But they can also be used on all your stories in the future, to make them even better.
So, once you’ve read the chapters and have an idea about what should happen next, just sign up! The spotlight is on you and you are controlling the story. But with great writers like you, and with a story about horses, I’m sure this story will turn out great!

Hi Animalsrkool: Members have told us they’ve seen stuff from Girls Horse Club showing up on other horse sites. Unfortunately there’s not a lot we can do about that, but we added that sentence to perhaps (in a nice way) change the mind of someone who may be thinking about it…
If it doesn’t matter to you, we can always remove that sentence or only add it on blogs by certain authors. If anyone has thoughts about it, let’s move this discussion to the Loft Book Club authors blog.

Katlyn is right — take your time. It’s a relay, not a relay race. :) Also keep in mind some of our authors live in the UK and Australia, so they’re probably curled up in bed having sweet horse dreams right now…
horsejo: might be good to periodically post a list of who’s doing what. We’ve received up to chapter 7, so next up is chapter 8 for Madelaina (and so on).

Ok, I submitted CHapter 11. I hope you guys like it. The story sounds wonderful so far and horsejo, you’re doing an exceptional job at organizing everything. I have one question though. When will you know to end it? :-? Thanks!
Julia:I think thats great! and i don’t think it’s gonna finish,or lyk horseho could decide it finishes on the 20th Chapter but i dunno.
Well, this may be harsh to the people who haven’t gotten a chance to write yet, but, the last sign up will be Katlyn. So that means, Katlyn will have to wrap the story up and give it a nice good ending that leaves you happy. If it turns out good, maybe one day we can do a second one with Amy and all of the other horses. The question is, Katlyn, do you think that you will be able to end it on chapter 16?
I may not be here starting on this Friday, for over a week, so I would like a volunteer to handle it while I am gone. Someone who comes on often and is willing to help. Thanks.

If no one volunteers to write chapter 15, I’ll do it. CHapter 15 has to start to summarize things so Katlyn can end it easily.

Julia and Tori, it’s great that both of you want to pitch in. There’s no reason why you can’t work together. Since people have been signing up then backing out :-S it might be time to cross the finish line. Perhaps set a time limit and if people don’t come through on their commitment, just take charge and make a decision about how to finish the story.

Horsecrazzz, I never mean to make you (or anyone else) feel bad when I occasionally step in to move things forward — just doing my ‘job’. ;) Everyone understands that priorities change, things come up, and writer’s block happens. Luckily you all are willing to cover for your herd pals when needed. Great teamwork!
