Ride From Your Heart

Give it your all. Give it your heart. Give it everything. Ride.
I’m sure we’ve all had those lessons. Those lessons where we don’t get the horse we want to ride. Or we have to ride a horse that we don’t like or that doesn’t like us. A lesson where you’re extremely frustrated or your trainer is. Those lessons you just can’t do anything or can’t get anything right. Yes those lessons we all just want to forget.
I’ve recently been having a lot of those kinds of lessons. When I came back from a summer’s break from riding (which I hated) my trainer quit so I got a new one. I switched the days I had my lessons and for some reason I just haven’t been having the time of my life. The horse I have to ride doesn’t exactly like me and I’m not really that fond of him. And worst of all I just can’t get anything right. I can’t post correctly, can’t sit the canter well, and am even worse at jumping. So what’s wrong?
Well I think I just haven’t been giving riding my all, my heart and my everything. It’s a new school year and time for changes. New trainer (who’s also new to the stables), new lessons, new horse and new desires. Change is hard. Change is good. But it’s time for me and all you other riders experiencing the same thing to wake up and smell the coffee. It’s time for us to buck up and try harder.

Then maybe just maybe our riding will improve, maybe we’ll get to ride a different horse and maybe we’ll feel better. So this fall I’m giving myself and every other rider a challenge. Even if you haven’t been having problems or you seem to be doing fine you still need to take this challenge. My challenge to all us riders is to try something different.
Now I know what you’re thinking. She’s gone mad! Or what is she talking about? What I mean is if you’ve been having some of these problems at your next lesson try something different a new strategy to get the horse to mind better, to get your riding to improve or just have more fun. If you haven’t been having these problems try something different to challenge yourself. I know I’m going to at my next lesson. Are you?
Give it your all. Give it your heart. Give it everything. Ride.

I like it :).
I had to ride a real slow horse once, the lesson did not go well.. :-S
I’m sorry to here that. Lately I’ve had two ride: a horse who doesn’t like me, a REEAL slow horse, then a real good horse (thankfully that lesson gave me a break) but then my lesson I just had the horse was a REAL BRAT and my trainer had to get on her TWICE! So like I said we all have those lessons just learn from them and next time you’ll probably do better.
I’d always keep that in mind Syd! You’ve written an excellent blog with wise words I would never forget. A job well done! :))

Wow Syd! All I can say is wise words from a girl who truly loves horses. I Love Your Blog!! ;)
A very thoughtful blog. I know what you mean. I’ve recently been having lessons like that, but it was because my grandad was very ( and still is) ill. He’s slowly on the mend, and I’ve decided to ride a different horse in my next few lessons.
