Rounded Up Mustang

Looking into those eyes I see a fire burning,
Looking into that heart I see a deep yearning.
Looking into that face I see an urge to fly,
Looking at those strong legs I do not wonder why.

To be free is a beautiful thing!
Galloping like you had wings!
To be caught, trapped, trapped in a chain
With nothing to loose and no one to gain.

Life isn’t always a fairy tale.
Not all horses are free to sail!
Looking into those eyes I see a captive’s sigh.
I wish that I could help this caught mustang to fly!

Cages and chains, no glory nor pride.
No herd to defend, no mares to guide.
A stallion brought down to levels too low.
Trapped in a tiny space, forced to go slow.

Why is this mustang not running free?
Why, instead, is he looking at me?
Where has the freedom vanished to?
Why must they live under a bridle and shoe?

Why aren’t the mustangs free to roam?
Why must they be caught, taken to a new home?
What have they done to deserve a cage?
Why do we sit back and not unleash our rage?

Looking into those eyes, I see a fire die.
Looking into that heart as it says good bye.
The home he had known is no longer his place,
The domain that he now roams is no longer free space.

A mustang is tamed, his life is new.
His heart is broke, his heart is blue.
No joy will he find behind closed doors
No fire will blaze, no, not any more.
