Runaway Horse!

We had my horse Blaze for just a couple of days when we were able to move her from her temporary enclosure to her more permanent one. My mom had taken Blaze around the fence line to let her know where the boundaries were. She and I then walked into the pasture with her and my brother stood waiting to close the fence behind us. We walked in pretty far and my brother had started closing the fence. I’m not exactly sure what happened but my mom unhooked her halter and she bolted from where she was up the little hill and through the fence. (My mom had let her go too soon but she hadn’t thought that Blaze would try to escape!)
Blaze ran through our property, our neighbor’s property and then alongside the fence that bordered her old home. My mom and siblings got in the car. One of my brother’s and I stayed on foot. We followed Blaze. I carried the halter and lead rope. I almost caught her when she stopped to eat but as I almost got the halter clasped there was a clap of thunder that brought her head up and then she was off again.
This time, instead of staying on the properties she headed for the road!! My brother and I ran to keep up with her. By the way, I was in cowboy boots! If you have ever tried to run in cowboy boots, well, then you know…it is HARD! (And it hurts your feet.)
A neighbor helped us block off one of the roads and my mom blocked off the other road with her car. Blaze saw this and she ran up to the side where the land is and pranced past my mom’s car! She didn’t stop until she arrived at her old home, where her herd stood waiting for her.
My mom and brother blocked her in (she had stopped between a fence and a shed) with some boards and we waited for some friends to come help us take her home.
This was one of the crazy adventures that I have had with Blaze. The lesson we learned from this experience was to securely close the gate before letting her go.
Close the gates first girls!

That is so funny! And scarey! You were lucky to get her back! How is she doing now?
LOL! Is Blaze where you got your name from, blaze’ncowgirl?
IMPORTANT advice Blaze’ncowgirl! It’s funny how when gates are closed horses somehow ‘magically’ know and just don’t go near them. But the one time the gate isn’t closed properly, here they all come! Great blog!
Wow, I certainly got worried when I started to read your blog. Its a good thing you got her! Yes, I know what you mean. It happened when my friend was leading a horse named Lucy. The lead rope my friend was using was broken, so the hook fell, and Lucy ran to the manure pile. The gait was open, so she climed to the top of the pile. Thank gosh she did not slip!!!!! Its VERY important to remember to close a gait. Great blog!
You can count on me to close the gate. was Blaze your horse?
I know exactly how you feel! I just hate it when you get so close and then they bolt. It drives me crazy!
horses are smart. I bet they could outsmart me. They notice when you forget to closethe gate. They are watching you……BEWAIR!
Ha ha! So funny. Awesome job!

P.S. I have tried to run in cowboy boots too. It’s painful!
Yeah so I realized that I haven’t gotten back to any of your comments. Well I have a spare minute so here we go!
Violet Inkpen: She is doing great. I hope to ride her soon. Once it gets sunny again. *longingly I sigh*
mustang23: Yep she is the biggest part of where I got my name from. =)
my horse and me: Yep, Blaze is my sweet horse. =)
Everyone else: Yes horses always seem to know when we forget to do something. They seem to have an eighth sense for our mistakes. Running in cowboy boots is so painful but luckily you don’t need to run in them too much! I always try to wear my boots because I dislike getting my foot stepped on. =)
Thanks for all the nice comments!! I’m glad you enjoyed this blog.
