Scrapbooking is a fun thing to do about horses. So I’m going to tell how to spend those summer days and put those summer memories into scrapbooks.

First of all, how many of you are subscribed to Young Rider, Horse Illustrated, Horse & Rider, Practical Horseman, or some awesome horse related magazine? I’ll bet all of you! Anyways, after a while they get old, fall apart, get lost, or you end up with piles and piles and piles of old magazines you don’t want to throw away, but your parents are begging you to. Well I’ve got a solution — make an article scrapbook!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Old magazines
  • A large/thick notebook
  • Copy machine
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Decorations (ex: stickers, old pictures, markers etc.)

Go through all your magazines, tear out the pages or articles you want to keep and recycle the rest. Next ,cut around the articles (so you don’t have all the ads and excess stuff in your nice scrapbook) and glue them into your notebook. Make sure if an article or story is more than a page long you put the corresponding page(s) next and in order. Most magazine pages are double sided so if you want something on either side of the page, copy one side of it. When you are finished (yes I know it took you FOREVER) you can decorate your new scrapbook with stickers, pictures from the magazine, color it, or whatever you want. Now you’ve got all your favorite articles and stories in one awesome scrapbook (or maybe a few) and recycled all those old mags.

Now, how many of you are race fans like me? And how many of you (you don’t need to be a race fan) cut out newspaper articles about horses, like follow-ups on major races? Well instead of letting them rot in your closet or under your bed, give them a more honorable place in an awesome racing or newspaper article scrapbook.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Newspaper articles
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Pens, markers, pencils etc.
  • Decorations
  • Hole puncher and ribbon (you can substitute with staples)

Round up all those newspaper articles, cowgirls, and cut them out! Next glue those exciting articles onto some bright, colorful construction paper, color and decorate. You may also want to design a page cover. Then put the pages in the order you want them, line them up (so your holes match) and punch three holes down the left side. Next get three pieces of ribbon thread, put one through each hole, and tie securely. If you don’t want to do the hole and ribbon method you can just staple the pages together. Ta-da — a beautiful new newspaper scrapbook to enjoy!

And finally, it’s sad to say, for most of us summer is coming to an end in just a few weeks. But hopefully we’ve all had great horse filled summers! So the final scrapbook I’ll teach you how to make is a memory one!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Scrapbook Pages
  • Summer memory pictures
  • Anything else from the summer you want in the scrapbook
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Something to write with
  • Scrapbook binding
  • Decoration

I think this scrapbook gives you the most freedom, because you can pretty much do whatever you like. Cut out and glue all the pictures and summer memories onto the scrapbook pages, label the pictures, write what you want in it, make a cover page, decorate, and put a binding on it. Now one summer’s memories can last a lifetime!
