Show Jumping

Almost everyone on horseback wants to be part of some sort of jumping. I am like that, my dream is to be named top rider in the world (I’ll have to try REALLY hard to make the top rank!) I love the tension, the feeling you get when you soar through the air, and the speaker announcing you and your horse/pony got first, second, third, fourth, or fifth place! It is SO much fun, especially if you win! Although, winning isn’t everything, it’s how hard you try that counts.
Show Jumping is a course of jumps that horse and rider must complete in a time limit. If you go over the time, that’s one fault every second over time. If you knock a rail down, that’s four faults. Horse and rider must clear all jumps within the time limit to be in the top ranking. If two or more horses have clear and fast rounds, there’s a jump-off. I think the horses and riders complete the same course again, but I’m not quite sure. I’ll get back to you on that one.
According to Wikipedia, Show Jumping is a member of a family of English riding equestrian events that also includes dressage, eventing, hunters and equitation. Jumping classes are commonly seen at horse shows throughout the world, including the Olympics. Jumping classes may be governed by various national horse show sanctioning organizations, such as the United States Equestrian Federation in the USA. However, international competitions are governed by the rules of the Fédération équestre internationale (FEI).
Anyway, the horses keep doing jump-offs until a one horse and rider get a clear round and a fast time, when all of the others either knock down poles, or exceed the time limit. That horse is named number one. There is much more info about Show Jumping than that, but this is the basics.
If you dream of becoming a world famous rider, just go forward, practice a lot, and you WILL be famous. That’s a promise.

Great blog Tori!I’m glad that you are so enthusiastic about being a show jumper.I have completly different motives of either barrel racing or racing on track.I love the feeling of going at a fast speed. ;;)
I want to jump so badly, but I’m not a good enough rider yet! I think you go at each jump at a canter right? I’ve never cantered besides one time when I accidentally cantered. It was fun! And I bet it would be even more fun actually jumping too!
Tori, this is great. I’d bet money you’ll become one of the best in the world one day. You’re obviously dedicated. Have fun and fly high! Great writing too.
showjmping is great i have always wanted to do bsja but it costs way to much

That was very nicely written. I hope to do three day eventing, and as you probably know show jumping is included.
I cannot really show jump too well, but I love to do lots of big jumps every week in my horse lesson.
I love jumping too! My understanding is that in a jump off the riders and horses do a modified course, rather than repeating the original course, but I may be wrong. I liked your post!
