Spring Fever

SPRING HAS SPRUNG! I don’t know about you, but this time of year makes me absolutely giddy. The days are getting longer, the temperature is getting warmer, and the sunshine brings abundant flora. There’s color everywhere! And let’s face it; although we’ll brave the elements to be around horses, there’s nothing like seeing nature’s new life with your trusted horse. So while technically it’s still Winter, in my mind Spring Fever is blooming in a BIG way.

SPRING FORWARD. Last weekend I visited a friend and her oh-so-sweet ex-racehorse who are training for dressage. As I stood in the arena observing, photographing, and taking digital video of her lesson, I found myself noticing the subtleties that are important to both horse and rider. Although my friend wasn’t keen on the idea of being recorded (I had to promise not to put her on YouTube), it would prove much more helpful than telling her what I observed. How we look from an unbiased eye (like the lens of a camera) can show a very different perspective than how we feel within our bodies.

Although I wasn’t taking a riding lesson that day, I was still learning alongside my friend. The lesson was a reminder that it’s important to surround ourselves with loving beings (both two and four-legged) who are eager to expose our talent in ways that help us spring forward.

SPRING BREAK. If you’ve been hanging around our virtual barn for a while, you know we like to take a break now and then to enjoy the quiet of our imagination and catch up on life in the real world. Sometimes it’s a mini break, other times we kick up our hooves for a bit longer. In April we’ll be taking a much-needed Spring break. During that time, I expect the barn mice will venture out for Spring cleaning, and when we return perhaps new life will be blooming. When dates are more clear, you’ll be the first to know. In the meantime…

SUBMISSIONS ARE OPEN! It’s nearing the end of the school year for many of you, and that can be a very busy time. Please keep your priorities on track, but if you have time and have something to say we’ll look forward to reviewing and publishing your work in the coming weeks. Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

  1. You’re right that you need to keep your priorities on track, especially since it’s near the end of school. This year, we’re tested on On Demand. You have 2 hours to write a whole article or letter. It’s extremely tough! I’ve never been so happy to have GHC though, because it gives me plenty of practice!

  2. I totally have to keep my priorities straight. I was so upset on friday when i found out I got a C on an English paper. I want to major in English in college so it really stung. I have gotten straight A’s since 4th grade and want to keep that up. I have about a month till my big tests and I have to start paying super attention. I always get nervous near this time of year and sixth grade has been by far the most nerveracking year yet!

LeadMare: I can’t wait to see what the barn mice do…have a couple ideas myself for ways to spruce up my room…maybe I’ll write a blog about it…

  3. Say hi to your friend for me LeadMare, by the sound of it she/he and the horse makes a great pair! I love spring as well since it like you have said represents new life. I love it when the grass goes greener and the flowers in the garden bloom again. Also, can’t wait to see what’s happening with the barn mice.

Stargazer and Horsecrazzz: Good luck with your tests and articles! Keep calm and do your best. Now that I’m in high school things are really tough and we practically have a test every few weeks.

  4. I’m out of school for now, but I am going to have to do a lot of catch-up work in order to make it to the eighth grade…

  5. Madelaina, I know how anyyoing to those random tests get! my maths teacher sometimes just goes okay I’m going to give you a test today!!! :-O good luck to Stargazer and Horsecrazzz! hope you go back to school ready and passable Jeanna!

I really cant wait to see what GHC will look like after the clean up/break! how long will the site be unavalible for, what excatly is going to happen?

  6. Good luck to everyone with school. IMHO you’re all VERY bright and talented. I know you’ll do your best.

tash, as soon as details are available I’ll share them with everyone. I don’t expect the site to be unavailable but will let you know if that changes.

  7. We just got back from Spring Break so now we have to buckle down. We are taking graded SAT essays that we only have an hour to complete. Can we say mass chaos any louder?

  8. ohhh okay thats great! thanks LeadMare! i hate it when spring breaks end!!
