Strength is From Within

We all feel the dreadful butterflies in our stomach, either when entering a show ring, getting back on a horse when you’ve fallen or before a major test. You push yourself to your limits, but with a nervous breakdown you fail to do what you must. It isn’t inevitable, but it depends on your strength to choose the right and the wrong, to lead you the correct way, to lead you forward to success.
There’s only one word to describe those sinister things you must do; difficult. You might be a weakling, someone like me. I’m a failure at running or strength. Or you might be a confident girl who rides or walks out with your head up to be a champion athlete. Either way, to conquer those fears you need a different strength.

When I’m talking about conquering fears, it isn’t about charging forward with a grim face, or shutting your eyes tight until the papers are handed in. In other words, you may leap onto your horse and fall again the next time, having to face the same problem, the same dreadful way.
Doing things requires you to believe you can. Don’t take a look at the jumps in the ring, or the questions of a test and think they are a big barrier in your life. If others can do it, then you can. What’s hard for you is hard for others. All you need to do is try your best.
If you don’t have the heart, will or determination, you won’t accomplish anything. As I have said before, strength is from within. Whether you’re weak or brawny, sensitive or strong, you can conquer anything that gets in your way. Spare the time you spend crying in the bathrooms when you are bullied because of something. Don’t worry about the performance of others. Just focus on yourself and know your own strength and skills.

I think strength from within is even more powerful and stronger than strength on the outside. It is my strength from within that brought me far, to succeeding in my high school test, to doing my best on long-awaited trail rides, to going far with what I have. We all have that special strength inside us, built typically on our love for horses. A kind of strength we can all relate to. In my opinion, there are no such things as limits. As long as you are satisfied with what you have done or who you are, and as long as you know you can do it, all it takes is a little effort and you will be on the other side.
I’ve heard that you do better when you are nervous, and I still go by it that way. But there are times when you need to realize your strength from within, like when you think you can do no more of mucking out stalls ( not quite sure about that:) ), forcing through a cross-country or anything else difficult for that matter. Let the outside world know what it is up against. Your strength from within can bring you further than what you can do without it.
Editor’s Note: The quotes in the photo illustrations are from Pamela Brown, a British children’s author. Her first novel, The Swish of the Curtain, was begun when she was fourteen. Using earnings from the book, she trained as an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and worked on the professional stage. Ms. Brown wrote many children’s novels and also produced children’s television programs for BBC.
