Symbols Slowly Fading

We have a thing in the west, that is slowly going away
A thing that is loved, that has seen better days
We want them to stay around, but how can they
When some people are okay, if they were to die this day
It is a symbol of our past, yet one that shouldn’t pass
It is a symbol of our freedom, one that shouldn’t pass
It is a symbol of our life, one that shouldn’t pass
It is a symbol of our dreams, one that shouldn’t pass
But sadly this symbol is fading, to the point where it’s almost gone
It’s slowly being erased in front of our eyes, separating from our bond
To days gone by where they were the apple of man’s eye
We are watching them slowly die
The wild horses were needed for cowboys of old
There were times when little boys wanted to fill their molds
Every girl dreamed of owning one at one time
Some still have those dreams, some even pine
But as I have said they are a symbol slowly fading
And they are only waiting
For someone to help them, to love them
To find a peaceful home for them
Or maybe just to be left where they are roaming
To live with their families where they are roaming
To be left alone on their paths of old
To do what they want and not what they’re told
For that’s what we love about these wild horses
We love their freedom, want to follow their courses
We wish we could have what they have every day
For a moment of time, to follow their way
These symbols slowly fading…

astounding poem Natika! Its great to see older horse loving gals writing poetry as well. I’m 17 and I’ve loved horses as soon as I’d known what the animals was. =) I love the title a symbol slowly fading… which that it is. Less and less of our equine are being left on the range.

I loved the poem! It is so true, and it makes me wish that it wasn’t. But beautiful poem, and good job!! Just a pointer, though: maybe you should try and rhyme the last word of each line with a DIFFERENT word. I love your style, though..; that was just a pointer. Wicked awesome job, kewl it up!!!
Ugh, I’m SO exhausted. :S but, anyway, that was a very relaxing and true poem. I loved it and it made me a little less tired reading it. But, oh my goodness, now I’m about to die. Maybe I should read it again, kind of wake me up?? :0) lol.
Wow this really caught my eye. There’s a lot of emotion in that, and it’s really well written too. You stated all of it well, and simply, if that makes any sense ;-)

This poem is so heartfelt and meaningful, brilliant writing! You’re right, the mustangs ARE a symbol. It’s sad how they are, like you said, disppearing. I hope to hear more from you soon :)
