Tasty Homemade Horse Treats

We all know what it feels like running up to your favorite horse with a yummy treat in your hand, and to see the horse joyfully nibble it up. But have you ever thought of making your own treats? Say goodbye to the classic carrots and apples — let’s get cooking!

HORSE COOKIES

  • 1 cup of oatmeal
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/4 cup of molasses
  • 1/4 of cup water
  • 2 carrots or an apple
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Chop carrots or apple and mix with dry ingredients
  3. Stir in all wet ingredients then fill a baking sheet.
  4. Score into sections and spray with a bit of oil.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes or until brown.

GRAIN TREATS

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 finely chopped apple
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Carrot (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix everything together until slightly sticky.
  2. Score into sections and bake in the oven at 425 degrees for about 10 min.
  3. Leave the grain in the oven until cool.

I hope that you and your horses enjoy these treats! They are safe for your horse and will not make him/her sick.

  8. Cassie, it really depends on how big you make them. Try it and you’ll find out! I’m sure it will make more then one! Horses love them!

  11. Cassie, I don’t mind all the questions at all! I guess they can eat them. Take a look at the ingrediants and see if goats and donkeys can eat them. I think donkeys can eat them because they are very close cousins to the horse, but I’m not sure about goats.

  15. I never tried it yet, I still need the molasses. Do you think the treats would be good without the mollasses

    If you can eat the ingrediants, thann you can eat the treat!! Im going to eat one!lol

  16. Tori, I’d use mollasses because it’s only safe. I wouldn’t try it without the mollasses because maybe it will make the horses sick. So go buy mollasses. Actually, I think we can eat the treats too! lol It might taste good, it sounds good!
