The Fun of Competition
Published by GHC • Jul 16th, 2007 • Category: Junior Blogger Archives, Showing and Sportby Tori, age 12
Everyone is always excited about going to a horse show. It is fun, there are many people there to watch, and you might get to ride your favorite horse or pony!
But have you thought about the fun? Have you thought about the passion? If you haven’t, you’re not ready for the show.
You need to to take a show seriously, but not too much. Think about what fun you will have when you enter the arena getting ready to do dressage, jumping, a flat class, etc.

Think about the passion of the sport. Don’t just think of the flashy ribbons you’ll get if you win. Think about how good you AND your horse tried.

I am going to a show in about a week and I will remember this. And I hope you do too.

Tori, this blog was so very true! Congratualtions, as this blog was posted by a junior blogger. Great job. :D
It’s a very good job even though it is short! I’ve never been in a show so I don’t really know what it feels like! Good luck on your show! What are you doing? Dressage, showjumping, barrel racing?
Marisa: Show jumping, but just little x’s.
Julia: THANX!! :) :) :D :D
This is a wonderful story-congrats on making it to the junior bloggers level!! :D
Regards,
Hannah
I’ve never competed in a show before, but my parents have taken me to watch them. So far I have seen dressage, show jumping, and racing. Im not really interesting in western riding though.
This is great!! I know exactly how you feel. I ride in rodeos about twice a month. It feels good when you win, because you know that you and your horse worked hard to get where you are now. Even if you don’t win though you have the satisfaction of knowing that there is always next year or next week. You know that you worked hard, and you worked well together. That’s what matters.
BarelRacer: very true!!

Haley: When you do go to your first horse show, remember to get a good-nights sleep ( I learned the hard way)
